TheGreatJ FYI I just posted the first dealer pricing indication here in Sweden in the M2CS pricing poll thread.

There are soooo many situations in which I'd rather be in an ///M than a 911 or GT4/3/2. I just don't understand why these people bought BMWs in the first place -- it's not like modestly-priced used Porsches are hard to find. Quite the opposite in fact, they're easily accessed and secured.
I quite agree!!

A car with versatility and practicality and the first car that comes to mind is the M2

I can provide one answer that I'm sure applies to many: cost. Cost is the only reason I'm not driving a 991 GT3 right now. It's easily double the price of entry compared to my ///M4. For me, the ///M4 is subjectively the best car outside of the GT3.

Sedan Clan is right again. The next 992 911 GT3 and Turbo base will probably be about $160k or more base. Plus another $20k after options. Whereas the M2 CS base will probably be $80k - $90k base. M2 CS will have limited options as I probably won't do CCBs. I can afford $90k but not $160k plus at this time so CS it is. Not interested in dealing with used car market.

I traded in an F Type Coupe to buy the M2. The latter is not an event to look at, but it's practical. Depressingly it's also quicker to accelerate. But. I'm okay driving it every day, and parking it wherever. Which I want with the F Type. This is way more relaxing, even if I do miss the F Type...

The ftype has the allure of the Atari nav system. That's really what you miss.

Exactly right. Price is everything or else we'd all be driving Ferrari, McLaren etc.

If the M2 CS reaches the $100k mark, why not step into a base 911, or stretch a bit to a 911 T? It would likely hold value better at that price point.

Alternatively I can throw a suspension and BBK at my M3 and retain even better practicality, reach similar levels of performance, and probably lose less money in the process.

At $75-80k, it would be a contender for sure...

I think we agree that this is a Porsche forum cloaked within a blue/white roundel. BMW is just the top of the stairway before passing through the gates to elitism. Once through, your peasant life is behind you.

It is just the nature of car forums. When I had a Focus RS they raved about the M2 and how nice it was, even the Golf R and how the interior was refined. An Mcar seemed like the ultimate on there. Here it is the Porsche, then the standard Porsche guys on RL want a GT car, GT guys like Ferraris, the standard GT guys want to upgrade to an RS, some lust after Air Cooled 993's, that is just how the internet works. Car enthusiasts seem to have wondering eyes....

It's simple gentlemen, most are looking for the next best thing. It's human nature! People also lust over what they can't have at the moment.

So, it's good to dream and hope and plan for that day you can take a step up.

It's all good 😎

True, I keep saying I want a Huracan in the driveway. I'm convinced that no matter how great your car, if DD, it eventually becomes "just your transportation". The poor man's huracan is the affordable used one, but who wants that one???

There's definitely truth to that. People do tend to aspire for more. To me the GT3 (...regular or RS model) is the acme of automotive excellence, so I can confidently say that I wouldn't lust after a Ferrari, McLaren, etc. upon reaching P-Car acquisition. Beautiful cars for sure, but not quite my style or in alignment with my personality. The GT cars have that rebellious, bad-boy-with-a-hint-of-anger-and-contempt feel to them.

Lol, I used to think like that until guys around you are turning up in their 458,488 and Huracan...

Trust me even if you have the GT3 you will want the F8 Tributo more especially the spider

Lol! That's some rich company there.

I honestly don't really care for the Ferrari's and Lambo's, plus I am a 6MT diehard. I don't even want a GT3 that's not 6MT. The Ferrari's and Lambo's scream, "bougie", to me; so opposite my personality.

But have you driven one in anger?

I'd get one in dark Grey, as invisible as you can get in a Ferrari, and swallow my social shame at being so rich. Some of them are stupendous to drive...

I drove a 488 and wasn't impressed. It just didn't do it for me. Beautiful car though. When I got into a Huracan I fell in love with it. Before that I wasn't a Lambo person. I really like the GT3. Definitely the most connected to the road from a feel perspective, but the interior is ancient. The Atari nav system in my ftype would feel out of place in the GT3 as too modern.

This was one of those track experiences in which I drove them back to back. In case anyone just thought I rolled around regularly with supercars.

That's not true for me, and frankly I doubt it's true for most -- certainly not true for any of my GT3-owning friends, of which I have several. So forgive me, but I find it hard to trust you.

And this is why ^^.

When you have a 6MT GT3 (especially the Touring), you're not thinking about moving up, because there is no *moving up*.

If money were no object, I would get a Singer 911 in silver or gray w/o any Singer badging and just tell people it was an old 964 restoration (which is true). It is the ultimate sleeper, IMO. And exactly what I want in a car, but wow are they expensive, and the waiting list is long.
