I have a 2018 (68) UK M2C and BT3 is saying my DME is locked, can this be done via software/ the OBD port with this ECU or is it needing to be taken out and unlocked ? Thanks

Im uk too, 2018.

It's might not be locked. My BM3 says it's locked sometimes and mine isn't, i just override it. Mines never had the bmw update that locked it.

If you're unsure if yours has been updated and locked raise a support ticket with PTF, very good support and they'll comfirm for you.

If it is locked then it's an initial bench unlock requied.

Where in the Uk would be able to do this? i checked any my ECU is 06/18 manufacture date. It must have been locked with an update when in for its servicing at the main BMW dealers. I have tried 4 tuning garages locally and nothing. Not really wanting to travel hundreds on miles

PTF support can confirm it's really locked 100% (and not a false locked like BM3 says mine is sometimes) by you sending them details from the BM3 screen when online with the car.

As far as UK bench unlock & tuning, I think the usual suspects Litchfield, Evolve and DMS but you'll probably have to pay for a tune which you don't need.

Might be worth giving them a call. AReeve performance seem good too, out at Kings Lynn though..

Whereabouts are you?

I don’t usually care much for 100-200 times but coming back from the track a couple of weeks ago and a guy with a 992 turbo wanted to race me, I was with Nankang AR-1’s so didn’t have much of a traction problem and I beat him to 250 by about a car length, anyhow decided to cheack my 100-200 times
Car is running extremely well with the BM3 OTS map, I did have a new base map install with the brap which made the car run much better.

Im curious, do you have any crank hub fix? If no, how many track sessions/miles have you done?

I have a crank hub setup including all parts and seals etc waiting at home for the event of a slip, but up to now I have completed 24,000 km, 14,000 on stg 2, most of them are on track or running hard on the back roads, I have compleated about 16 track days, each track day is around 100 km hard on track.
If it ever slips usually 99% of the time it won’t cause damage and then you can just toe the car to the shop and get the hub fix installed.
By the way I have a friend who is a race driver and drives an M2C daily much harder than me with the same setup and has completed about 70,000 km with no problem.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply. I am still debating whether I should do the fix or not (just done BM3 stage 1). Seems complete ‘luck of the draw’

What do you mean with “with the brap”? What did you change?

We’ll see I have a European model which is much more strict than the US model on emissions so we don’t have a hard cut and the brap sound when you lift off the throttle (not talking about cracks and crackles)
Anyhow the car is driving much better since the new base map which much more bottom and mid torque which is great for the track (my tuner didn’t really want to say what he exactly did with the SW)

I’m not sure becouse from what I can tell most cars won’t slip unles on a big turbo setup or down shifting hard, I also know of another guy that is on stg two for 60k and he drives it like he stole with up to now no slipping problems knock on wood.

I spoke with bm3 support about this and they are working on a solution for European cars.

Hopefully it is released soon as I like that about the pre-OPF cars.
