understood but that you can do after you have already shifted and released the clutch. In my M3 i used to keep a watch in HUD and i am talking only during spirited driving, doesnt make a difference during regular driving. Gear shift indicator is a way to avoid money shift during aggressive driving.

As much as I enjoyed my M2C test drive, 2015 M4 standard is lighter than M2C (with all of the carbon fiber goodies & 19 inch wheels) and will walk them on the track. Shorter wheelbase does not always equate to better lap times as stability is more important than sharper inputs.

Here's my $.02, having owned an F80 ZCP for three years, owning an OG M2 for more than two, and test driving the M2C on three separate occasions:
The F80 feels much stronger than either the OG M2 or M2C from a "seat of the pants" perspective. It also feels much bigger, and heavier, which can be good or bad depending on your personal wants and needs. The M2 and M2C feel lighter (probably due to the shorter wheelbase, even though they really aren't all that much lighter) and generally more playful and fun. The F80 is more composed and really feels stable at higher speeds (over 120). Not that the M2 doesn't feel stable at those speeds, but the F80 does this better in my opinion. Having come from a 981 CS, I never quite got over how big the F80 felt. It kind of ruined the experience for me to be honest. I know it's not a huge car in the grand scheme of things, but it felt much bigger than what I thought it would. I also could really tell a difference between the suspension settings - they all felt basically the same to me (pretty firm). In my opinion, the M2 has a much more compliant ride, and the OG's seats are much, much more comfortable than the F80's. The F80's seats look nice, but the ZCP cutouts remove lumbar and the padding is much more dense compared to the OG M2's. Lastly, on the M2C front, I think that BMW really neutered the savageness of the S55. The M2C didn't really feel all that much faster than our OG M2 (I drive them back to back on all three M2C test drives) and there was that "fizz" missing, at least from my perspective. That's why I didn't buy one, because in stock form, I didn't feel enough differentiation to warrant having two versions of the M2 in my garage (OG and M2C).

I've driven both versions of the M2 back to back multiple times. IMO there are several differences that show up. 1) Power is much more linear with the S55 motor(and it pulls right to redline) The N55 has a lower more abrupt torque kick. 2) The N55 can overheat at HPDE's the S55 will not...(Air to Water vs Air to Air IC's) 3) The S55 motor easily produces around 500 WHP with a Stg 2 tune. The N55 struggles to reach 400WHP due to FP issues. 4) The N55 sounds MUCH Better than the S55 with OEM exhausts. 5) Steering feedback is much better in the M2C (still not as good as a P Car) 6) I like the fact the OG M2 could fit 18's to it. I had to spend $5K+ to upgrade to an Essex BBK kit to do so.

I'm not a fan of the 400MM brakes on the US cars. As I stated in the first post you can't fit 18's over them and they weigh much more than the OG M2's. These are off the M5 and IMHO are overkill on the M2C. If I had a choice like the UK and Europe I would have gone with the smaller setup.
They are such a tight fit on the OEM 19" rims that even a small stone can get jammed between the caliper and the rim and make a terrible screeching noise. It happened to me and it was so loud the car in front of me pulled over thinking there was some thing wrong with their car! So big is not always better. With the AP Racing set I'm now good to go. My solution is to spend a lot of time staring at the brakes and marveling at their size. That's really the thing they're best for, so might as well get what I can out of them. |

Not bad, tempts me into actually getting an M2C and swapping with someone that has F8x blue brakes. I would like to run 18s in the winter and I think the blue brakes are good enough for me.

I personally think that less is more. The fact that M2C does not have adaptive suspension is a plus. Simplicity is key; give me one setting that does it all instead of many settings that work half-ass. Also, less things to go wrong with the suspension and cheaper to replace.

Great feedback everyone. I've recently started toying with an idea of getting back into an M car that would be my daily driver (around 20-25 miles total on week days to go to Park-&-Ride, drop kids at school on the way, and go back home).
We always take an X5 if we go someplace with kids, so I was thinking to go with either M2C or an F80 option. I like the idea of a newer car in M2C vs. what I could get with an M3, plus I want to get into light motor-cross eventually. My main unknown with an M2C is if the ride quality will be too stiff. I had an e34 M5 before and my wife would not ride in it because it was too harsh, most she could handle was e46 M3. Unfortunately there're no M2C to test drive where I live, so have to either wait for something to come up, or take a chance/pass on it. Also, can somebody comment on the size of the rear seat and ease of getting in & out of there? I am 6'2" and would have to drive my 5 & 10 y.o. to school, whenever that opens up again. |

Listen, mistakes happens and can happen when you shift fast during spirited driving, by saying paying attention is nothing but bookish talks. HUD prevents money shifting and so does the gear indicator, there is absolutely no freaking reasons the car doesnt have both these necessary features when it comes loaded with other comfort features which are nice to have

Rear seat is very cramped , only kids can use it. Difficult for an adult to get out , getting in is not the problem

The rear seats are bigger than what you’d find in the back of a mustang for instance. That said, the car doesn’t ride very well. It feels very much like a sports car in terms of ride quality. A bit stiffer than my old 350z was on its stock suspension. Last edited by Moflow; 08-22-2020 at 10:00 PM.. |
