Great steering for all OG/LCI M2!!! :-)
Hi,
My car went onto the dealer for it's end of warranty check and had it's software updated - when it went in, it was actually coded for "F087CS" steering, which I have been a big fan of. When driving afterwards the steering felt slightly improved in terms of feel but largely the same - I was a little surprised at this, as I thought a software update would clear all settings. I then had the laptop plugged into the car today and noticed that the car was actually on "F087" coding for steering! BMW seem to have been unexpectedly generous and updated all the M2's with great steering. I then went on to do a couple of back to back test drives with the F087 and F087CS coding options. They are very close, but I actually prefer the F087 option - in Sport+ the steering is slightly lighter and as a result has more feel. :-) If steering feel is your thing though, try the F087 option and turn off the DSC - wow, that is great steering - weighty, but dripping with feel. |

If you have an og m2, then it will seem as though you have bought a new (better) car - the differences are massive in the cars dynamics. If you have an lci, it is the steering that is much improved (for me still worth it). An hours labour to gain the improvements is nothing compared to the cost of the car. Read all about this latest update in my last post on this thread: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1427747 Be aware of the asd difference. |

Those carbon fiber oil filters can be pricey. Totally worth it though if you want a lighter car.

They were charging $150 before which is still a lot but my SA explained there was some sort of deal going on before for that pricing and they no longer have that deal. I explained there is no reason an oil change for the N55 M2 should cost BMW $100 more than an N55 135is. My SA did not respond. Just bought some oil that was delivered to me yesterday so it will get done one way or another. |

New M2 (and BMW!) owner here. Car has warranty for a few months and two services.
Please explain istep what it is, what I should be asking the dealership. Are all updates positive? I heard someone say one of them have a quieter exhaust note. Are updates reversible? Can you get these updates from an independent specialist garage, I hear about people getting GTS updates to DCT or steering. Thanks |

Your exhaust will actually be louder as the ECU opens the flaps more than the OG software. Traction is better, steering is better etc. The ASD (active sound = sound augmentation = fake sound inside the car) is probably going to be slightly quieter, but it is still there and is actually a much better balance between being complimentary vs. intrusive. Don't know. Unlikely unless you go through a lot of hassle doing it yourself (due to inter-module dependencies). No way that a dealer would do it. Quote:

Great response thank you.
I even read about the LCI M2 maybe being perkier than the OG OG M2!? I'll certainly flag it up she's due the next service if that's ok or does it count as a 'warranty' item in which case I've got till November. Do dealers tend to know the individual updates so I can anticipate the changes? It's amazing so much is tweaked through the software after the car is launched, not just sat nav stuff which I understand but actual control parameters for the car! |
