ASD - More than engine noise?
Trying to get a sanity check on this. I used a bypass harness to get rid of ASD and now I don't have fake engine noise being played through the speakers ... great.
It might just be my imagination, but road noise is a lot more pronounced and speaking to passengers in the cabin seems more challenging. The stereo also appears a bit more "flat" although I read about some of that in the ASD threads. Does the ASD do more than just engine noise, such as noise cancellation based on make/model, acting perhaps as a EQ for the stereo based on a make/model harmonics etc? |

I have noticed the same thing. I found that the bass in the car is now less pronounced, cabin noise e.g. road noise is louder. So you you may be right, might have some other purpose like white noise...

I agree, but also disagree. The ASD was LOUD, and I didn't quite realize how loud it was until I bypassed it. The road noise is the same volume, the only difference is that you can ACTUALLY hear it now. While the car can be a bit noisy at high speeds or over rough roads, it's far better than my other cars, so I have no major complaints. I do plan on doing the supplemental door seals though, as I have heard they make a noticeable difference. For the speakers / sound system, with my untrained and non-audiophile self, I would say it has improved. Bass definitely seems more prominent, overall it's far less muddy sounding, and it just overall sounds more clear. I much prefer to have the radio almost off, and have the windows cracked, but maybe that's just me. I'm not entirely convinced the ASD is doing noise-cancelling due to how loud the actual engine noises were.

ASD was LOUD for me and I like having an aggressive sounding car. I coded my ASD off via bimmercode app. Glad I did as I can actually hear the turbos of the car now.
No issue with radio when ASD is off. Had ASD off for 9 or so months now.

Guys - What is the most popular / best OBD for the M2C, to go alne with Bimmercode? I've never coded before, and will likely do small stuff like code out ASD, etc.
Thanks |

ASD and systems like it are just the norm now in new cars. It honestly doesn't even bother me. |

I used Bimmercode to disable ASD, no issues with the radio or anything else. Road noise is more pronounced, because the fake ASD noise isn't there to drown it out. |

Then I get on here and everyone is slagging the ASD, which is normal for anything fake-bake on a $55K car (fake vents, scoops, etc). But when I got Bimmercode I disabled it and immediately regretted it, so I enabled it again. However, I feel like it's because I don't ever drive on the highway, and have the stock exhaust, so during my tiny daily commute I actually prefer the extra sound. Once I get a real exhaust things may change, but not driving on the highway is what really helps. |

ASD and the AC/Fan goes into low to standby mode, when a phone call is in session. Try making or receiving a call and pay attention to its operation.. |

Regardless, the cabin is very loud and listening to music on the radio is worthless (not that I want to). However, when a phone call comes in, its surprisingly ok to hear, and the person on the other side has never complained. So perhaps ASD does get toned down a bit? With coding, I guess one can always revert back to ASD...more of a personal preference for folks

I haven’t tried coding out the ASD, but I’m perfectly satisfied with the way it sounds now.
Even with ASD on, it’s not as loud as my old Camaro SS with dual-mode exhaust. |
