Seat belt issues

This might sound silly, but something I noticed and have struggled with understanding.

Within a couple of months of getting the M2C, I noticed that my seatbelt was coming out crooked, i.e. its getting twisted inside the holder and wouldn't retract when let go. The first few times pulling it further while doing a slow twist seemed to fix it. But then this weekend, that trick stopped working, the whole length twisted (all the way from inside the holder and it just wouldn't retract and I end up with the whole belt outside the holder (not broken, just saggy and loose). Of course now its no longer serving its purpose and not tight.

Took it to the dealer and they had to take off the seatbelt holder. After an hour or so they put it back in the right shape.

This is my first 'expensive' car and just bummed me out a bit on the low quality of the seat belt system.

Maybe I'm just being nit-picky since I don't really have any complaints. Interested in hearing if this is just a one-off or if others have run into this.

TL;DR: Seat belt twisted inside holder and won't retract.

mine did it a couple months ago. It was pretty easy to un-twist by popping the "front" of the rear interior panel off so the seat belt was accessible

I wouldnt worry about it for now. If it continues ask for a replacement. The odd distance of this seat belt can cause issues I suppose

my passenger belt was like that and would not retract properly. I tried to fix it and ended up making it worst, would not go in or out. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it quick, has been fine since.

I had this same problem with my M2C and had the dealer fix it. I got a mailer from BMW saying that my, now sold, 235 would have the warranty on the seatbelt mechanism has been extended.

I now am the annoying guy that tells the passenger to please put the seat back in very slowly so it does not twist again.

I remember reading somewhere the seat belts' warranty has no expiration date or mileage.
Not BMW but some other brand...
Either way charging $500 to untwist a seat belt is ridiculous.

I have the same situation with my drivers side belt. Guess it's definitely a 'thing'

I have no idea if this is related but I took my M2C in for the break in service last Friday and the service manager told me there is a service bulletin/recall on the seatbelts. He said that it is a brand new bulletin and this was the first time he had seen it. I had not seen anything about it when I checked the website the day before. I didn't ask what the exact issue is but it turned out to be so new that they did not have parts for it and he said that I may want to bring my car back in a few weeks. Just a possibly related FYI.
