Do you know how difficult/expensive it is to import a vehicle from Canada to the US?

Can't be done on a brand new car, only pre-owned.

Otherwise, I don't think it's too difficult. Many Canadians import US cars. Can be done with a broker, or go pick it up with a check in hand. There are different rules based off of which route you take.

There's a thread on the 1M side that goes in to a lot of detail about it.

Not how it works here. It's basically impossible to import a car into the USA unless it's 25 years old or falls into the very special "show or display" category.

Good question. I thought so also. Also Anyone know if there's a 2021 m2c ? Or 2022 m2c?

I believe so.

What's your time frame to purchase?

You've been contemplating this for some time it seems.

The 25 year rule applies to vehicles from outside Canada/US. We have the same rule in Canada, except it's the 15 year rule.

Since US spec and Canadian spec vehicles are so similar, with all of the same regulations (not sure about California), etc. Cars can be imported/exported from one to the other with relative ease.

There are duties and taxes to be paid when it crosses the border. If it's brought over by an individual then the speedometer does not need to be changed. If brought over by a broker then the speedometer does need to be changed. As I said, I'm not sure of the all of the specifics, but it is definitely doable and with the exchange rate difference there are some serious deals to be had by cross-border shopping.

There's a thread over on the 1M board (by NachoB I think) that goes in to the specifics on how he imported a 1M from Canada to the US.

If you're looking for a great deal, go for a 2017. If you're set on a 2018, wait another 6 months or so, just until more 2020 M2Cs land so it drives down the value of the 2018 a bit more.
good grief, a ~$10K hit in a year .. curious what if anything did you replace it with?

I actually had it for a little over 2 years, but still quite a hit. I enjoyed the hell out of the car though, so it wasn't so bad.

Picked up my 2020 M2C 3 weeks ago!
