Dinan exhaust fitment question
Just had the Dinan exhaust and resonator delete installed for about a week and am loving it. One thing that I always keep focusing on is the fitment. I had it installed by a local shop and they had it on the lift for me to inspect. I suspect they were a bit worried about fitment as well since it looks a bit off. To me, it looks to be a little low but they assured me this is how Dinan intended. I'm hoping somebody who has this exhaust can offer their input or better yet show me their fitment.
The shop mentioned if I wanted it to sit higher, they would have to weld new brackets on the muffler which I do not want. |

I just received response from Dinan and they said it should be more tucked in and gave me some pointers. Unfortunately, the shop that installed it is telling me they've done all that they could and would show me. Since they are not an authorized Dinan dealer, I am debating taking it to an authorized dealer to have it inspected. If anyone has this, I would love to see a pic of what it should look like. |

Let us know how this works out. I'm interested in the Dinan but not if it sags like that.

Take it to an authorized, preferably BMW, Dinan dealer. They'll do it right.
It'll look great with the CF diffuser.

We have this same issue on the m235s also. Fixed with shorter exhaust hangers

Thank you! It does look similar. How do you feel about the fitment?

Mine is same with BMW performance valence.
At first it bothered me. Now, not so sure I want to screw around with it. Mine was installed by a top notch restoration shop so I am assuming they could not do much more with it than how it was installed w/o going to modifications. Keep in mind, there have been some "melted" valences from owners who are tracking their cars . 2 photos attached--white car is mine, red car is the "donor" of the Dinan system. Angle of photo may be affecting view of spacing BUT neither setup seems too tight to valence. It also looks like the whole valence is tighter to body on white car making the spacing greater to pipes. It was a little too loud on cold starts when I added a DP. I installed a EVC to keep the flap closed on start ups and its tolerable (still rattles the glasses in the kitchen cabinets). Valve open is Awesome! |

Mine sits exactly the same way height wise as the OP which is in my opinion is too low. I have the stock diffuser and mine doesn't stick out past the bumper/diffuser nearly as much.
I adjusted mine by putting the rear on jack stands and supporting the muffler can with a floor jack then loosening the two exhaust clamps, moving the muffler into the position that I wanted and tightening the exhaust clamps again. I had to jack up the muffler quite a ways (almost hitting the bumper) when I was tightening the clamps to get it to max height because after you tighten the clamp and release the floor jack the hangar will sag under the weight of the muffler a bit. You may want to ask your install shop where they cut the stock exhaust, there should be a dimple to indicate where to cut so you get the correct final length. OP let me know if you need help. Just saw your pics. The first pic looks very similar to mine. Angles make a big difference. Last edited by Happy Motoring; 05-22-2018 at 01:54 PM.. |

its weird. I stared at this forever trying to decide to leave it be or see if the gap could be reduced.
Then I looked at my 911 ( which I have owned since 2006) and Porsche's OEM gap is almost as much as Dinan's and I never noticed it at all. For now, I am leaving it as installed. |

You must be pretty handy if you can make this fit better than a BMW tech. Was his install bad or product just designed poorly? I'll take a look and see if there are any further adjustments or just learn to live with it.

Well he did the whole thing in under an hour so he might have been rushing. It was really not hard to adjust it at all, just raise the car up, support the muffler, loosen the clamps, move it around by hand to where you want it to be and tighten clamps. Easier than doing an oil change. If you have a floor jack, jack stands and a 13mm socket/ratchet you can do it yourself in 10-20 mins.

It's probably intended to be mounted that way. I'm guessing it's done to keep air flowing around the pipes.
The system I had was way hotter than my oem one.
