But honestly? I'm kind of "meh" with the yellow and SOM. I'd have to see it in person first. R.

My housings came in today. Extremely well packaged and labeled. Very impressive. Seems like good quality. Very easy to pop the white led boards off and glue on the yellow boards. Took me about 20min taking my time. I'll let the glue dry for about 24hrs and hopefully get them in tomorrow.

This was super easy. 15min to swap the housings in. I didn't bother unhooking the battery.
Initial thoughts. I think it looks great when halos are on. Headlights and halos is kinda weird. Yellow outer and white inner. Yellow is a little washed out. Potential negative. If you utilize the lights when you first unlock the car to see your surroundings I think you'll find less overall illumination or it's that you must get used to seeing everything in a yellow hue. A nice mod that's easily reversible if you buy the extra housings. It does look the business. I'm going to leave the amber side markers. They don't bother me |

Are all those pictures taken in the same lighting conditions? If that's the case then you're right about the significantly reduced lumens provided in terms of ambient lighting.

Unfortunately these phone cameras artificially adjust brightness and contrast. The halos dim a bit automatically after the car unlock sequence. They are brightest when the headlights are on or the car is on and DRLs are on. My opinion is there is still a significant lumen loss with this mod.

No one looking at a E30 M3 or E46 M3 CSL is thinking, “man this sure would look better with some random aftermarket headlight modifications. I wish it wasn’t stock.”
Although it does help values for unmolested examples I suppose. |

Was speaking more to the aesthetics than resale ability but your point is taken. To each their own and what not.

It's a very polarizing mod. My brother/daughter like it. My wife hates it. I like it. Point to this post is to share that we shouldn't be offended if someone thinks it looks bad. Likewise, there is no need to continue to pound it home if you don't like it. I will say it looks significantly different in person than in photos. I love it when you shut the car off and it's just the yellow halos glowing. Good stuff.

Much happier today. I thought I was crazy. The headlights have been on with halos and I thought I mistakenly thought headlights were off during the day. Turns out I had the headlights set to on instead of auto. Even with halos at 100% when the headlights are on the outer halo is difficult to see the yellow. Loving the yellow running lights though for the time being when I see the reflection in the cars in front of me.

You're lucky she even noticed. My wife can't tell the difference, or she really doesn't care either way.

Got housings and the led boards on aliexpress. The icedriver boards already came with thermal glue so all I really needed was a razor and hammer to pop off the white boards, scrape off the glue, glue on the yellow ones, a few hours to dry, and then a torx bit to unscrew the OEM housings and swap in the replacements.
I don't love them, I don't hate them. I guess eventually this will get old and I can just swap back the OEM housings. If I had to choose one, it would be white, but the swap is so quick I'll just leave them for now. Total cost was $215. I would not have done this if I had to modify the OEM housings (although, now having done it this way, I guess taking off the OEM white boards and gluing them back on later wouldn't be such a big deal) |
