The 3er is not as wide as the 4er so to accommodate the M hardware they had to bulge out the wheel arches to accommodate. It was not for aesthetics but for purpose.
So does that mean the the M3/4 underpinnings that are going into the M2 will make the M2 that much wider than the M235i?

Most probably. There's a whooping 94mm width difference the 2er/M235i and the M4 so there's plenty of space to get so big fat wheel arches

No, not that much 1M-ish. Expect more M4-ish than M3 or 1M.

Well, you can always drive with folded side mirrors.

Even though it feels like that was made 5 years ago at this point, it is still my favorite - the color is especially awesome.

It will probably look a lot like the M235i racing only finished off a lot better with a different front, but the rear fenders look about right

It has the M4's suspension, so wouldn't that make it almost as wide as the M4? You are putting the same suspension in a different car, but it will possibly have different tire widths (smaller) than the M4.
