Regardless, along with FlexFuel there will be safeties (AFR target vs actual and some more). Even now, if MHD ECA is lost (sensor is disconnected, or overall unit is down), CEL will be lit, and custom MHD+ errors (MHD001 and MHD005) will be reported. On MHD001, engine goes into LIMP mode (will get user configurable anytime soon). Another option of failsafe is "jump to fixed Ethanol content", which is also user configurable. So lets say you know what your fuel is, and on the race you don't want to get into limp. So you set "jump to E40 params if ECA is offline", and you're good to go.
Is it possible to have it limp to pump gas mode but compensate for fuel trims?

Not sure at this point, but I will check and get back with the answer.
Or do you mean have scalars good for E blends but target 1 degree of advance? That's be more like map switching to a safe map

That sounds cool if you could target pump gas timing, but essentially I want the car to be able to switch to a pump gas tune but still be able to compensate for E85 that is in the tank. That way when I'm on track I don't completely limp out, and when I'm on the street and potentially am using pump gas if the ECA fails it doesn't automatically default to e85 or e40 for example if using the fixed ethanol failsafe input. I know you could always change the ethanol concentration in the failsafe but that would be inconvenient and defeat the alot of the purpose of having flexfuel which would be convince.

That being said, you just want to drop your timing to very low levels (which you would normally target only with pump gas ) keeping scalars (and trims) relevant for E blend. Is this correct? So called, "timing limp mode"

Yup correct, but drop timing and boost too, to pump gas levels. So a so called "pump gas limp mode" but keeping the scalars for E blends.
