Price Check

I'm looking for the following,

2017 White M2 DCT
Executive Package
20-30k miles. I don't need a super low mileage car as I drive less than 5,000 a year.

Looking around it seems like this is around 40k. What would be a fair offer on a car like this? Brand new 2018s seem to be going for ~50k so is 40k high for a used car?

Also, this will be my first time buying used, would I need a pre inspection done on a 2017 car?

I think 30k miles you're looking at 40k or even high 30's. Teens to 20k miles maybe 41-42. If it's a private seller you might be able to find a better deal but dealer probably not. As a data point I traded in my 2017 with 9k miles last October for 47K and they probably sold it for 50 but prices have dropped a lot since.

I would do a pre-inspection on any used car. You are looking for modifications and for accident damage. Not all damage shows up on a carfax report.

Always, always do an inspection on any used car no matter how old.

Where do you do a "pre-inspection"? Typically you will find a used M2 somewhere not in your neighborhood as there aren't a whole lot so bringing it to your local mechanic is not always feasible.

I once purchased a used E46 330Ci out of state. I made arrangements with the seller to meet at a local (to him) independent BMW/German Auto shop that I had researched. At the same time, I had set up an appointment with the shop for a PPI. Went well. Worked out for me because it was in Los Angeles and there's plenty of shops to choose from and it was convenient for all parties. Negotiated splitting the repair costs for what was discovered and went to the bank, gave him cash and drove it home!

the pricing on the M2's seems to be all over the price. If you look on autotrader and car gurus there 2017s with 9k for 44k...2017 with 24k miles for 44k.

i would wait a few more months until the 2016/2017s come back from lease and you'll see a more stablized pricing. Right now, i think dealers just price used M2's at how ever hot they think the M2 is in their market.

Reached out to a dealer in the NE that had a spec I wanted. They immediately gave an aggressive offer to which I countered. I explained how it has a moon roof and that might be a deal breaker. That on top of the fact it had been sitting on there lot since June of last year I think got me the deal.

Not only was it a great deal, because of the big discount I was able to lease it. The 48,000 included the 4250 offered by bmw and 750 for loyalty.

Drove it home, 1400 miles total. Taking it in for break in service tomorrow. Couldn't be happy with the car

There is very small percent that are lease. Lease rates were terrible, I bet less than 10 percent were leased.

Sale price actually came out to 50,000. I told them I'd take that price if they took my lease in early to which they paid directly to BMW. That was another 1200 making it 48,800 to be exact.

It was a great deal, I flew up to New York and the entire flight I thought I'd get there and find something terribly wrong with it or they'd try to change the deal.

I got a very similar deal. '18 M2 msrp 61.2, sales price of 49.9. Very happy with the pricing.

lets say the OG M2 stays at around 44k even with the lease returns adding to the supply. Carmax already had a M2c for 58k...lets say end of the year you see M2c at around 52k.

maybe we're better off waiting till end of the year and just get a 1yr used M2c.

I would like to believe the used marked follows closely to that of the e9x M3. Production numbers are lower, especially factoring in the 3 variants of the M3.

To me, the allure of the the M2 is the small form factor, light weight, styling and perfect engine. I've had the F80 M3 and thought it was too much power. I can only imagine what that would be like on an M2. Increased weight plus what I believe to be worse looking, I'd stick with the OG.

Well the M2c and the new coming M2 CS will always push the M2 OG down...just wondering what the delta will be between the bottom price of a CPO m2 OG and a slightly used M2c.

If the delta is only like 7k it might be worth it just to get the M2c with the s55 engine and m4 seats.

I'm hoping the M2 OG will follow the e92 m3 depreciate scale but i think the depreciation line won't be as steep as the e92 since the M2 2016-2017 supply seems kinda low compared to early e92 m3 numbers.

I don't think the demographic of the people interested in buying these cars used in 5-10 years is going to care about production numbers. As in, they're not going to seek out an OG M2 specially for that reason. Those people are probably looking to get into an M2 at the cheapest price point possible because it's now fallen into their budget range.

This isn't the type of car which is going to appreciate in value, unless you're talking in 20-30 years and the car is in mint condition, THEN you might have a negligible interest from super enthusiasts.
