Plenty of reasons to be pissed. I'm sure there are others.

1) Joy riding without owners permission
2) Putting on unnecessary millage
3) Using up fuel
4) Potentially getting rock chips on paint
5) Potentially driving the car hard, stressing it, burning up the tires, etc.

So....Does a dealer really have to test drive every time you pull in for service? Or does it depend on what kind of service they are providing?

As far as I can tell, a dealer literally has unlimited use of your car which is a tacit agreement when you go in for service.

This sucks.
But nothing you can do about it. They didn't explain anything when you asked about it? Only quality control??...

I've been @ that dealership(Autogermanica?)twice: nice and helpful in the showroom, but that's about it if they 'joyride'your precious M2.

Come to think of it I even met one of their CEOs in one of the casinos overthere lol.

When i had some electrical issues (coil pack failure) with my Mini, the dealer kept the car for 10 weeks and put 1000 miles on it. Most of that was unnecessary. Needless to say i went elsewhere for my next car.

Quality control? He drove 54 KM on my car. I wanted to punch him on the face...

I work on saturdays so I did not want to waste more time over there. I left.
What should I do? Not happy. Dont trust their service department.
Anybody think this is normal?

I believe that there is a previous thread where a dealer drove an M2 for 60 miles. " road
Testing". That's more than 100km.

I would be upset.

Experienced worse with dealers... At least they did not break it!

Nothing you can do about it, but telling them off next time and tell them you will focus on it again.

Other option is dashcam and put them to shame online...

I feel for you; I would be extremely upset. As other have said, a dash cam would be a great help in a situation like this. In all likelihood, they wouldn't do this to a car with a dash cam installed in it.

My dealer has a sign up that your car may be driven for 20 miles or more and you acknowledge this on the paperwork you sign. I know my techs and I have no problem with them driving the car.

Its a small country. I could call the owner and complain. But Still waiting for the general manager to conctact me again and give me further explanations.

like most of you said. I can't do anything legally. And yeah you do sign some document that states they might use the car to test whatever. But you also trust that the dealer will only test cars that have problems. My car is fine. Its the abuse of this "right" that pisses me off. the lack of respect for my property.

Im thinking of putting them to shame through facebook and instagram. I dont have a video. But i do have pictures of the ODO before and after. This is not gonna help me much. But at least i get the word out.

DASHCAM is not a bad idea for future visits.

Those shy people can turn it off. I recall such complaint on a local forum.

You can count yourself lucky. Many years ago (over 50) I dropped in my brand new MGB of a few months for its first service where we bought our petrol. The owner's son drove an MGA so I thought he would look after my car. Then the dreaded phone call that he had seriously pranged the car some five miles away on the local boulevard when someone did a U-turn in front of him. My first car as a 19 year old and I was quite flattened by the experience as well as doing without the MGB for five weeks. Now I would sue for a brand new car. Needless to say that they lost our family's business, service and petrol accounts.

So now the general manager at my dealer contacts me stating that indeed it is BMW protocal to road test the car for safety purposes. He never once mentioned how much KM is required for this. Then he continues assuring me that car was driven with proper care. And sent me GPS logs proving that the car never went over 134 km/h. What a crock of shit. Im gonna leave it there.

WATCH OUT for shady BMW dealers...

Work with another dealer in the future ( and explain to the new dealer why you are now there ) is something one can do...
