Tried to test drive an M2...

And the dealer wanted to run a credit report before allowing me to do so. So I left.

Anyone else have this experience? This dealer was selling their M2 at a 'dealer premium' of 5k, so maybe they were just too full of themselves to let me test drive it.

SoCal, btw.

Depends on dealer to dealer. There is markup price so maybe they just want to give the test drive only to a customer who is ready to buy and not just keep adding miles.

Silly Cali BMW prospective buyer !

Test drive an m240 and make your decision if you would like a car that's faster, handlers better and costs a bit more. If so then buy an M2. Do yourself a favor and make sure you by your car as far as possible from where you live .. then when you get your car , pay a visit to the dealer rep that wanted to run your credit and show em a smoky burnout.

I know, I am learning this. ALTHOUGH, I did speak with one of our forum members at Steve Thomas BMW, and he said that they are selling at MSRP at least. That way I can get a brand new one, that no one but me has driven

I've had that told to me so many times in my life and I've never once done it.

One time I had an angry salesman throw a my trade-in registration back at me when I refused.

I test drive all my cars before I buy them. Do not buy without a test drive.

I've only been able to score a test drive directly thru the manager on new cars and few salesman.

We limit test drives on specialty cars, the actual buyer wouldn't want a ton of miles.

Test drive? From what I experienced you cant walk in and ask to test drive on one. Rarely dealers had them when I was shopping for mine back in April.

I drove one at one of the two dealers I dropped money at. The dealer brought it for the people with $ on the list so we could decide if we kept waiting for an allocation or drop the list.

Most dealers will NOT let you test drive. They are going to sell it. There are 100's of glowing reviews, they have no need to put extra miles on the car. It is in their best interest at current supply/demand metrics not to.

American dealers doesn't have allocated cars for test drives?

Here they do. Not all models at every dealer but if you look around you'll find almost any model available for a test drive. At least around the bigger cities.

You could get test drives back when the demo cars first rolled in. Now probably not so much and every dealer will sell every M2 that comes in. It probably helps though if you have bought a car from the dealership as well. That's how I got my test drive as my salesman knows I'll be in the market in a couple years.

Most Dealers here SOLD their HEA cars as a " first allocation "

Gets rid of the problem of people asking for a test drive ...

If there are still a US buyers who "Demand a test drive" ... with 563 reviews in print and in video and all over YouTube of this car saying it's the hottest thing on the market ... all I can say is .. good luck on your Porsche purchase.

BMW hasn't marketed this as specialty car , despite the fact that it clearly is being produced in numbers that indicate it is.

It's caused a lot of buyer confusion. .

I know, it's a 2 series, still not that special. At a Porsche dealership I had to repeatedly turn down test drives on cars with double or almost triple the MSRP of the M2.

I understand they don't want to let people drive cars that are basically sold. They should not sell their damn HEA cars.

This is not a crazy request on the dealers part. Most dealers do not do test drives on M cars because the prospective buyers are very sensitive to miles. I would not be thrilled about buying an M car with anything more than regular delivery miles on it because I don't want some guy to hop in my car and rev it beyond the break-in limits which would almost certainly happen on a test drive of an M car. Running your credit was a test to determine if you were a buyer or a tire kicker. If you really intended to buy the car if the test drive was good you would probably not have a big problem with them running your credit. At least they were willing to let you drive it at all, I was unable to find a dealer that was willing to do that.

If you have an established relationship with a dealer, BMW, Porsche or otherwise you are more likely to get a crack at a test drive then someone off the street, especially if the guy off the street is younger.

In reality a regular test drive doesn't tell you a whole lot, your not going to drive it long enough and in a variety of conditions to the extent that you can learn much. If you want to learn a lot about the M2 and M3/4 spend a few bucks and go the M school. I did that and it was worth every penny. My M2 was already on the boat before I went but I recommend it as a way to have fun, learn and experience the M cars before you drop the cash to buy one if your not sure its for you.

No, it's stupid. I bring my own financing and I don't need any stealership F&I bullshit. Why would I want a hard pull on my credit to test drive a 2 series. I can go dressed like a hobo and drive a 911 or Tesla in 10 minutes without a credit check.
