I've removed these a few times.... Pull the piece off at the top first, then slide it upwards towards the headlining.

All three of the clips (two white, one metal) will slide down in the trim piece, and might actually stay in the metal bracket, but that's how you get it off.

You might want to buy a few additional white clips because they're more fragile than the metal ones. I've taken my trim off maybe 5 or 6 times now, and broken 2 clips in that time.
Haha thanks man.
I think I just lost interest in doing this myself.

Honestly this could not be easier. First off I'm not sure what the C pillar is but I don't remember removing it. Just the passenger rear seat panels, rear seats the back panels. Most just pull off and snap back.

Thanks GregoryK

Rear seat bench comes out easy.
Then I was reading the instructions on removing the side panels and the third step linked at the top of the page was that c pillar cover.

Here https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/f...rests/KLFmrbBp

The armrest side section also didn't want to disconnect.

I guess I'm just worried about breaking any on the plastic clips and not being able to put it back together.

You don't really need to remove those C Pillar sections to get the rear side panels off, putting them back on you have to tuck them under the C panel covers if you've not taken them off.

I don't think you can break anything besides the white clips, and I've only ever broken those on the C Pillar covers. Besides, they're like $1 each at your local stealer.

Thanks Nezil. I may give it another go.
The stealership is booked till Jul 4 anyway with doing airbag recalls.

What about that section that's right under the rear seatbelt. It seems to be attached at the top.

You should be able to just go to the parts counter and buy some. Let me know if you need the part number.

I don't think you need to take that off either, but you do need to pull off the padded section between the seat back and sides. It pulls out at the top, then lifts out. Short sharp pulls.

If you do want to take that off, it's held on with 4 8mm self tapping screws. Two can be found under the padded section I just mentioned, the other two are round the side in the trunk. You can pull the liner back to get them if you have a thin 8mm ratchet, but I normally just take the liner out.

Road noise from tyres or wind noise is not something that bothers me. But the drone/sound (non-MPE) OEM exhaust does bother me when driving long "cruise control" trips on the autobahn. I already got the ASD delete cable and this was a nice improvement with exhaust noise. When I drove with the rear seats down the car was so noisy...so I'm sure most of the noise (that bothers me) is coming from the rear. My after summer/winter project will be fitting some rear sound insulation...

bmwv Would you say these modifications make the ride enjoyable? I'm considering purchasing a new 2018 M2 to replace my 2016 M235i, but after taking a 2017 M2 on a roadtrip this weekend (rented through Turo app), I'm having second thoughts because it was SO LOUD that it felt like it would damage my hearing. Would you say these mods would mitigate my concern? Did you need any special tools to install them?

First you need know if the noise to heard was the ASD or not. If it was, then no amount of insulation will help as it's coming through the speakers. The good news is it it's ASD you can easily turn it off with an app or a cheap bypass harness.

Thank you for the reassurance! I'd bet that it was primarily due to older tires, and I can't vouch for any of it's maintenance. I'm days if not hours away purchasing a 2018 M2!!!

Has anyone tried this with the MPE? I'm trying to get rid of the drone around 3000rpm on the freeway. It forces me to drive one of my other cars for long trips.

And yes, I already have the ASD bypassed.

I just completed a major soundproofing project on my M235i. I just bought it as a DD and I wanted a quiet ride. I wanted a small, powerful, decently luxurious, and quiet manual transmission sport coupe. The M235i close enough so I added the last criteria myself! I looked at the M2 since I wanted the LSD and suspension, but I wanted a cheaper car to rack up miles, too little soundproofing, and although I used to be involved in motorsports, couldn't justify the extra price.

A smartphone soundmeter didn't show any difference before/after the same stretch of road, similar conditions, but I hear a major difference. Around town it's noticeably quieter. The stereo sounds way better. On the highway, tire roar was definitely reduced but not eliminated. I think this was due to reduction in some frequencies over others, which was not reflected by the smartphone soundmeter.

If anyone wishes to take on this project, lots of pics which you can refer to in my thread here: https://www.2addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1603280 . Long story short, the sides of the car are highest yield and easy to access.

One of the best sound quieting tricks is to change those tires. I have M3 wheels on my M2 having just put them back on after winter. They are PSS 255 fronts and 275 rears. They are really noisy compared to the winters. Sticky and large road connection area = noise.

Didn't see a reply on this one. The first one is inside where the seat belt runs in the B-pillar. Is there on my 2016.

The second one I haven't looked for if it's there, AFAIK it's behind the panel where the hood latch lever is.
