That's the point of my post. Folks believing that a car with a 80hp deficit and less torque will be as fast in a straight line are living in dreamland .

How is this a fair comparison? They're drag racing an M4 competition package against a regular M2. The M4 with competition pac has more hp than a regular M4, if am not mistaken.

True. Totally agree. But this is what happens when you add turns

It's the fastest M4 currently available against the fastest M2 currently available. Further, test results so far show that the M4 CP is not really much faster than the non-CP M4 in a straight line.

The M2 Competition/CS seems to be putting down the same straight line speeds as the “regular” M2 according to the people/spies cyber stalking the test runs.

you show the M3CP being 0.5 seconds faster than the M2 in this particular comparo. So M3/4 still faster than M2 even when you add turns. Not sure what your point is...

I track a fair bit, been doing so for over 20 years. A track buddy of mine let me drive his M2 for a whole 30 minute session a few weeks ago. It is really a great car and very enjoyable to drive, with very sharp and responsive handling. But it does not come close to the M3/4, mostly due to the power deficit. The challenge with the M3/4 in stock form is that it is significantly under-tired. Put R-compounds on both the M3/4 and M2 (as all track rats do), and the M2 does not stand a chance.

Based on that logic, the fastest M4 would be the M4 GTS. If they had done that, it might have been entertaining but pointless, just as using a competition package M4.

I don't believe this. If the M2CS has an S55 as rumored, it should be significantly faster than the regular M2.

But the M2CS is not released yet. And when it is, we can compare it to the M4CS .

True. But the GTS is a rather exclusive special edition, not an "option" you can tick on any M3/4.

I just think the M4 comparo is pointless, but to each his own

You don’t have to believe it.

Just check the Bimmerpost M2 CS threads. All the current laptimes are on there. It’s faster to 60 by about .02 (can’t rmember off the top of my head). Of course there’s a chance that it will get faster after they nail things down.

For the record it’s a detuned S55. So it obviously has tons of potential.

How can there be any official figures for the M2CS, it's not even revealed yet ?

Stock for stock the M2 has consistently kept up with or outperformed the M4 when turns are involved with professional drivers at the wheel.

Did I not say “spies” up above in a post? Testing on the track? Do you know how to extrapolate or draw connections or infer?

Do you need everyone to do everything for you?

I guess we haven't been reading the same magazines regarding lap lap times...

Comparing lap times for cars on street tires is an interesting data point to understand how they behave at the limit for street driving. And that is how magazines should test to keep thing equal. However, for folks that actually track their cars, how they perform with R-comp tires is more meaningful because that is how cars are tracked.

Jeez people are really overthinking this video. It's not made to shit on the M2, it's just a harmless video of getting a bunch of M cars together at the same time for a drag race. Everyone knows the M2 is slower in a straight line than those other cars, and it wasn't built to be a drag strip star. Nothing against the M2, but even if it had DCT with a great driver, it's not beating those other cars in a drag race.

The M2 is a lot slower than the rest. But it didn't help that it was a manual either.
