Why do other M owners not appreciate the M2?
I was at BMWCCA’s M car Days last weekend. We had probably 200 or so M cars there. Of that ten cars were M2s or M2Cs.
For some reason, the M2(C) got almost no attention. It was just the M2er talking to each other. They even had car talks about several M cars but the M2 was excluded. With every review stating that the M2(C) is the best current M car produced, I wonder why other M car owners were not interested in it? |

Because M2(C) is the entry level M product.
Although technically M3 has been the entry level until in 2015/2016 M2 came out, it's always the M icon. M2 replaces M3 as only an entry level M, but not as the icon. And entry level thing gets under appreciated.

There is no such thing as an entry level M.

I appreciate all M’s
Just today I was cruising in traffic on the motorway in my M4CS and spotted a LBB M2 coming up from behind, much waving and mutual respect was exchanged and it felt good! |

I've never been to a huge BMW gathering like that but have found at others with multiple cars (including some other Ms, of course), people are super interested in my M2. Honestly, you see a whole lot more of the other Ms than you do M2s. The other M owners always have a of questions and interest.

Arguably off topic. I sit in traffic everyday and usually with my windows open while the weather's nice. I have had a number of interactions with drivers in "their other car" who tell me all about their M5 or M6 while complimenting my M2C. It happens enough that I'm starting to think it's "a glitch in the matrix".

One could make an argument that the M2 is now the real M icon, since it is the closest one in size to E30/E36/E46, and the F80 and G80 have grown too much in size compared to what the M3 once was. Imo the only iconic thing about the M3 now is its badge.

It is my belief most people talk with owners of the same type vehicle they own. Reason being they discuss modifications and other related topics for the model they own. Like the forum each model of M has its own area to discuss topics.
I can only speculate on why the M2C was not discussed it appears the M2 segment was only 10% of the vehicles attended. Possibly the membership level at BMWCCA is lower for the M2 segment and that was taken into account when talks / presentations were considered. |
