Rear head rests: position up and position folded down

I bought my car 7 months ago and because I've almost never looked at back seat, I saw this phenomenon only this weekend. Why do I have one tall and one short head rests? I bought this car second hand 0 KMs from a ca dealer. Is it something normal or is it not?

They fold up and down. You guess which is which. . I keep mine down as I don’t typically have anybody in the back. Sometimes they’ll pop back up if you fold down the rear seat as they can catch on the front seat backs as you fold the seats back up.

There is a button on the left side of each back headrest to fold or unfold the headrest.

I looked at the head rest from the front seats. You cannot see that they are folding from there.
No idea what's the joke all about

Thanks for those who have answered!

There is one very easy way to make sure the headrests don't pop up when you fold the seats down...don't fold them down.

I've asked dumb questions on here "where is the switch to fold down the back seat?" what menu is the oil temp on? (BM stick) (Latch visible in the trunk) I've had 6 bmw's, I'm still learning

get a good grip on the headrest base rings, firmly press on the side button until it unlocks, little difficult in the rear seat but after you've done it you can do it with your eyes closed next time

no need to beat up on the OP

OP -

Typical reason this happens is if you are putting down the rear seats (for more trunk space, obv).

The car gains 4 MPH top speed with both headrests in the down position...because aerodynamics.
