Replacing a manual clutch is cheap by comparison.

And launching the DCT without launch control is a lot less hard on the clutches then using launch control.

Does "fully depressed accelerator" mean beyond the click or is it enough to press up until the click?

Its been a while but I had a kickdown stopper in my M235i and now my M2 and if I remember right, lunch control does not work, I have to remove the stopper to really get to the end after the step.

Want to add something concerning LC.
No idea which cars each of you had before the M2 but a four wheel drive LC is not comparable to a two wheel drive LC. I had an A45 and a RS3 on one hand and the M2 and an ATS-V on the other hand and it is not comparable. I'm not saying don't use it. It is fun no matter how many wheels are moving your car but just take into account.... ;-) |

There's nothing wrong with using LC. Just like anything else, if you abuse it, it can cause wear but the car will not allow LC if transmission and engine temps are not optimal (too high or too low). If you're going to the drag strip or doing some dragy runs, go ahead and use it. It's there for a reason.

Lunch Control was super useful on my AWD M235i at the drag strip, on the M2 not so much.. Tried it a few times and then just concentrated on hpde days and never went back to the strip..

I've found LC to be the quickest way to 60 with a caveat: most people leave the launch RPM at the initial setting of 3500. That was too high for many surfaces on stock power.
Now with stage 1 tune and a DP, I find that anything over 2900 RPM is pretty useless. If you know the surface you're on and your own power levels, you can dial it in to be faster than just mashing the gas. |

I always thought so that a rear wheel drive shouldn't have high RPMs like the AWDs.
My A45 and RS3 used 3500 RPMs. My ATS-V used 2000 RPMs which is a lot reasonable for a rear wheel drive. In my next car, coming soon, it should be interesting :-). 6000 RPMs for a rear wheel drive but a mid engine. |
