I highly suggest DV+ because it holds the boost well. The part is cheap but the labor is high since it's not easy to install. Remember to find the good shop to install that part I had a installation issue before and caused some issue. I have similar setup like you do but CTS open Intake, FTP charge/boost/inlet pipes upgrade....

Wish we can figure out the root cause. BTW, my buddy from BMW tech mentioned they have changed couple OEM wastegate under warranty...

I was thinking of taking into dealer, however, the problem doesn’t exist at stock tune boost levels, if it did exist at that level then it would for sure go to the dealer. But this seems to only occur at the higher boost levels.

You're at 3,200ft of altitude, you aren't going to hit the boost target with 15-20% less air density. You should fill with Husky 94 vs Petro 94, it seems to be more knock resistant. I'm down to 1/3 can of boostane professional with Husky 94 on 91 OTS. Stopped using Ultra 94 last summer when it was clear it just doesn't cut it.

Ok, so the answer to this is a bigger more capable turbo for my altitude. I can work with that I assumed at 3200 feet that the stock turbo can make 17 psi, if techinically it cannot, then that explains it.

The stock turbo is good for 18ish psi at sea level, which nets 14-16psi for us highlanders depending on air density that day. Some people will make claims about higher than 18, but it's pushed beyond its efficiency range and makes heat and no more power.

Adding a Turbosmart bov to see if this will help. It just arrived and will install it this weekend.

Curious to know if this helps, I didn't have logs ability when I was running the stock DV, but immediately after changing it to the Turbosmart VR11, I gained a bit of power and the stock boost was a little higher so I made the assumption my OEM DV had a little leak (probably not as large as yours though).

I'm very interested this thread, looking for some feedback from other forum people as well.

How were you getting a target boost pressure of 17.8psi on BM3 Stage 2? Or has the map been changed by PTF as mine is only ever max 16.5psi (stage 2 OTS 93)

Hi,

I have the same issue - running BM3 stage 2 (tried both 91 and 93), the boost holds target in the lower/mid revs (~16.5 PSI , sometimes peaking just over 17), but then drops below target from 4.9K onwards (always ~1PSI below target). The wastegate is not @ 100% - more like 80%.

I had the car dyno'd today, and this is costing me 60-70bhp!!!!!!!!

Drop the hammer / JKen_0115 - please can you let us know if you managed to solve your issue with an aftermarket DV, or something else?

Cheers.

Maybe boost leak??
thought i'd start with changing plugs and maybe trying some octane booster and re-logging.
what do you think?

Bringing this dead horse back.

I'm having the same issue. Haven't been able to pull any logs yet,
But I'm clearly loosing boost above 5500rpms.

Curious to know if the DV could be cause and what yall ended up doing to fix the issue if not

I did add the turbo smart bov. I also upgraded to eventuri version 2. But same thing would happen at high rpm’s.
So I traded the car. When pulling off the csf intercooler, it did look like the motor side fitting may have been leaking at the intercooler where the AA pipe inserted into the intercooler. Had 80,000kms on it anyways, so was time to go regardless of this.
Got another n55 M2. In the process of putting the same mods on (but the modding is postponed for winter). I have transferred my BM3 (stage 1 for now) and my Fabspeed sport cat. The coil overs and intercooler can wait until summer as I don’t drive it much in winter. So I guess I solved the problem by moving the car along.
