To those who have an issue with the play within clutch pedal, I read a few folks in the 2er section raving about this Ultimate Clutch Pedal below, which supposedly eliminates the slack within engagement point.
Also, the M Performance short shifter knob is known to improves the overall shifter feel. Personally, I find this stock set up to be adequate but I respect different folks/different strokes complaints. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ultimate...al/ucp301~ucp/ https://ind-distribution.com/product...bon-shift-knob |

I like the stock knob, but it'd be nice if it were twice as heavy. |

I'm glad you posted this because I've had the same thoughts. I've had my M2 for about two months now and I still don't look forward to the shift from 1st to 2nd. Every other gear change up an down is butter but that 1-2 has some kind of long drawn out feeling/drag. I'm intrigued about the clutch options I'm reading on here though. Does it just reduce how high the clutch returns upward?

been driving MT for 20+ years. M2 is the easiest MT to operate. loving the auto rev-match also.

To answer the OP's question: No more than any other BMW. I've had upwards of 15+ BMWs, most of them manuals, and they are all difficult to drive smoothly, specifically the 1-2 shift. I've also had Porsche 911, Boxster, Corvettes and a Japanese thing, all manuals. All of them were easier to drive/shift smoothly than most BMWs. I think it's the low gearing that BMW uses to get good 0-60 performance numbers.

i dont think the bmw manual is that difficult to drive but its just want of those driving dynamic things where if they just have the clutch pedal at a lower height and reduce the clutch engagement length and just used the same setup for the entire F series line it probably would cost much to BMW. From a business stand point i understand why they didn't want to waste the development money in a transmission with such a low take rate. |

I think the M2 is very easy to drive smoothly. I co-worker just got himself a Civic Si and I drove it during lunch last week. It was horrible. I think that thing must have a clutch delay valve with an incredibly long delay. I had the hardest time shifting smoothly and I've been driving manuals since I was 17 years old.
Perhaps one of the easiest manual cars is the Mini Cooper. It's so easy that a beginning could shift smooth as butter after two minutes behind the wheel. |

You should look into adding weight to the stock shifter/knob if you want to keep your car stock. I added tiny tungsten beads to the inside of my OEM knob (Audi) and it made a nice improvement to the shift feel. Other guys have added thin lead tape by winding it around the bottom of the shift lever (under the vehicle) to get the same effect. Either way, adding weight does make a noticeably better feel when shifting.

I have the MPerf knob, and while it did improve shifter feel, I really miss the HEAVY knob I had on the BRZ. |

After 20+ minutes in heavy traffic, it feels like the engagement point is jumping around, clutch shutter, it's not great. Mine just doesn't like to be driven in bumper-to-bumper traffic on hot days. I really like the clutch/MT in every other scenario.

Someone else suggested it before -> short shift from first to second at around 2k rpm. This will result in a smooth 1-2 shift, but obviously won't win you any drag races. Works well for stop and go traffic though.

The wandering engagement point is the CDV. It sucks. Remove it.

I remember during my test drive really feeling at home in the M2C right away, which says something because my first impressions of vehicles are really keen. Then after taking it home I started getting annoyed with rev match, but within a few days learned how to capitalize on that. Now I love it.
The only thing that is awkward is the 1-2 shift, mainly because of the gear spacing. Not much you can do about it. If I am in no hurry I make that a lazy shift at lower RPM and it is much better. I have driven some pretty lousy BMW manual transmissions, and this is not one of them. It's not nearly in the same league as my S2000, but it's OK. |

I guess I never really thought that closely about it, but after a quick drive I can say that yeah, it's the 1-2 shift.

BM3 Stage 1 shifts like butter. I think the problem is that the rpms don't drop fast enough with the stock tune. It's especially noticable from 1st to 2nd.
