I was driving today and heard a pop, then loss of power… pulled over as I now can hear a loud turbo spool. CP failure.. BMW should recall this part. It’s crazy that it’s a common thing. I will be looking on how to replace my self as I called bmw and with labor it’s about $800+. Anyone have video on how to replace dm please.

How many miles on your M2? Tuned M2 or stock? Looks like you even have the charge pipe with the upgraded collar, so I’m guessing model year 2018 or later?

If you get a replacement metal pipe and have to go through CA smog check, please let us know whether the metal pipe passes the visual inspection portion of the smog check.

I have 2018 M2 and not tuned, all stock. Ordered a VRSF CP as I’m not pay bmw for crazy labor cost and for an unreliable CP. 25k miles on car. I need to figure how to remove logo off the 4 ply silicone connector without damaging the silicone. If anyone has any ideas let me know. I have had my car since Nov 2018, how long before they ask for smog?

As of 2019, cars that are 8 years and newer are exempt from the biennial smog check. Prior to 2019, I believe the exemption ended at 6 years instead of 8.

oh nice, I didn't know this:
Quote:
What vehicles require a Smog Check?
Gasoline-powered vehicles, hybrid vehicles, and alternative-fuel vehicles that are model-year 1976 and newer require a Smog Check, with the following exceptions:

Eight model years and newer do not require a biennial Smog Check.
Four model years and newer do not require a change-of-ownership Smog Check.
To determine the first year a vehicle requires a biennial or change-of-ownership Smog Check, add eight or four, respectively, to the model year of a vehicle.

For example, a 2020 model-year vehicle will first be subject to a biennial Smog Check in 2028 (2020 + 8 = 2028). That same vehicle will require a change-of-ownership Smog Check if sold in or after 2024 (2020 + 4 = 2024).
https://www.bar.ca.gov/consumer/smog...20Smog%20Check.

So 2017 = 2025 for first SMOG check - that's good news
