HELP: M2C mirror retrofit on pre-lci f87 M2

I cannot find any intructions for replacing 2016, 2017 m2 pre-competition package style mirrors with the M2 competition package mirrors. I searched using google and searched this forum but no instructions showing step by step instructions. A video is preferred but pictures would be good enough. Maybe I am not using correct keyword when searching? I have been searching for almost 2 weeks but no luck, I have the retrofit kit PKF87M2CMIRRORS on order comng from Germany the week of 02/18/2019 and prefer to have some good instrictions when they arrive/

I bought the m2c retrofit kit from getbmwparts, part number is

PKF87M2CMIRRORS

Which should be a direct swap for the 2016, 2017 M2 mirrors to the m2 competion package retrofit kit. See part link using the URL below

https://www.getbmwparts.com/p-f87-m2...kf87m2cmirrors

Maybe all I need is the door panel removal instructions so I can remove the mirror bolts to replace mirrors as a start? I have that from bavsound video showing how to do that step by step. That video can be found using URL below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Ds...ature=youtu.be

I did find on this forum where the poster posted mirror replacement but for an E46 car whiich shows removing door panel removal in the video, basically the same process, just differnt car, where the method should be the same, cannot find E46 mirror swap

Please HELP!

Use a credit card to pop off the plastic trim under the interior door handle. Theres 1 t20 screw. Next use a flat head screw driver wrapped with painters tape to pry off the carbon fiber trim. Look under it, there is a gap just for a pry tool. Theres a few more screws. Theres 2 more screws under the door card. Once theyre removed you must pry the card off. Youll hear the clips pop. Once thats done, just undo the wiring clips and then slide the speaker housing off the speaker. Then you can pull the speaker off and reveal the 3 t30's holding the mirror on. If youre comfortable enough, you can actually change the mirrors without removing the door cards. Simply slide the speaker housing off and boom, the bolts are there.

Excuse my lack of punctuation. Im typing this on my phone at the gym. Figured id help a brother out since i literally finished this project yesterday.

Here is what I did in preparation for my mirror swap. You can find it in the cosmetic mods forum.

Had a quote for having these both fitted and non fitted.

Received some PDFs from the dealer, but not the actual fitting process. Just the prep work.

It reckons 2.5 hours to install.

Just wondering if it's possible to do it without removing the door cards, why people are removing the door cards? Seems like a lot of extra work if it's not necessary??

...and FYI...you guys are a bunch of dinks. I was perfectly happy with my AutoID pseudo M Mirrors...until I started seeing all these "Real" M Mirror swaps going on...now it is gnawing away at my insides...ugh.

painting options

I am thinking about painting the high gloss (all of it on the mirror) same color of the car.

I have no way to photoshop what the M2 would see what the caps look like painted same as the car.

I got the idea looking at my E46 M3, entire mirrors are silver gray. I thought painting the high gloss as the same color of the car (mineral gray) might look good, whats are your opions? Once I get the mirrors in a week or so, going to see if possible to even paint all the high gloss black. I believe there are places hard to get to w/o taking the entire mirror (i.e. before caps, before glass) assembly apart.

Ha ha, yeah I was a big cheerleader for the AutoID mirror shells. They're a really nice alternative if you don't won't to shell out the cash for the real ones. After seeing other members with the OEM ones and hearing how they operate, it's really hard to pass up. I just got my shipping notice, so I'm exited.

I plan on keeping my M2 for quite awhile, so I may as well do what I want with it.

it's possible.

Slide the mesh speaker housing up and backwards. This will reveal the speaker. The speaker has 2 plastic clips. One at the top corner which easily pops out. The 2nd is tricky. You need to push down at an angle into the door jam to release it. Once that's off, you can access 2 of 3 bolts. To access the 3rd, pull on the inner corner of the window rubber trim. It has a rubber plug holding it in place. Be patient with the 2nd speaker clip. It's the hardest step.

Curious, I assume the mirrors are still heated, right? GetBMWParts description says their kit can be for memory and auto-dimming, but nothing about heated.

The mirrors I bought are identical in function to the OEM ones in that both sides are heated and the drivers side has autodim.

I didn't order mine from getbmwparts but I assume that they come with heating as standard which is why it isn't listed as an option in the drop down menu. Easiest way to make sure would be to email and ask.

I would check with Jason Reighard (jreighard@mileone.com), he help me choose from the pull down what I needed based on last 7 of my vin.

The pull down menu allows you to select non-autodimming, auto-dimming, carbon fiber, non-carbon fiber. Put the part number PKF87M2CMIRRORS into the search on

http://www.getbmwparts.com

The online only store getbmwparts.com is part BMW of Silver Spring (formerly named Tischer BMW), just outside of Washington D.C. in Silver Spring, Maryland, it is a USA based Authorized BMW dealership selling only OEM parts

I installed my mirrors today and the connections for the glass are identical to the original glass, so I assume they're heated.

Big thanks to das_m2, I just removed the speaker housing, instead of the whole door panel. Removing the door panel would make it easier once you got to that area, but if you have some mechanical experience, you can remove just the speaker cover assembly, being careful taking it apart, and getting everything snapped back correctly.

Once I finished the passengers side, the drivers side was cake after I figured out what to do.

Ayye someone actually tried it. I found out the hard way when I didn't screw down my passengers side mirror completely.

Yeah, I tried it. I tried it because initially before I had known how do do it, I thought removing the speaker assemble would be the easiest way. When I tugged on the speaker assembly and noticed how easily it came free, I knew it could be done. I was aided by the fact that I had past experience of tearing apart my cars, and specially my E36 M3. I'm also a Aircraft mechanic by trade, so I'm familiar with taking things apart & assembling them back together.

This is not for everyone, and removing the whole door panel isn't a bad idea, if you have the time and patience to do it.

The member hssr also helped when he mentioned the fact that the screws holding the mirror assembly are self-tapping. I had forgotten this fact until I attempted to install the new mirrors. Once I realized this, I was able to install the mirrors with my cordless impact, being careful to make sure they were aligned correctly.

I definitely don't have the skill to do this myself. Has anyone been quoted a price to have it done in a shop?

I totally forgot to mention the self tapping screws in my first post. I didn't know until I was trying to screw it in with my fingers first. I'm no mechanic, I arrest people for a living, but I certainly like to take apart and build shit.

Yes, you do. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. If you can do that, you can remove any screw or bolt. The hardest part is popping plastic clips that hold the door card in place. It feels and sounds as if something broke, but that's normal for popping clips. Just be patient, talk to it, caress it a little bit, and you'll get the cards to come out. I absolutely hate paying for easy shit like this.

I just hit up a local shop to see if they had a mode carbon front lip in stock for me to physically come get. They sent me an invoice with labor installed. The lip is like $1250 and the total came to $1600 something. $400 or more to install a front lip? What kind of crazy math is that? How does installing a lip equate to $400 in labor?

Did you use any pry tools to get the speaker housing off, or just your finger tips?

The bavsound video shows the process to pop off the whole speaker unit, but doesn't detail how to remove just the thin mesh cover. Do you have any tips before I go yanking on this thing?
