M2 PE ZL9 with Dinan & M Performance mods

This M2 is 1 of 150 ZL9 specs. It now has 446 hp and 458 torques and weighs less than 3,390 lbs. Lowered on adjustable M Performance coil-over suspension with sticky Cup 2 tires, this car is dialed in to perform on the street or track.

The sound of the N55 with the MPE is special. In Traction mode with the valves open your neighbors know you're around. And in Sport + the car just screams towards 7,000 RPM. Writing about it is pointless, you have to hear it.

The M Performance coil-over suspension lowers the car about 10mm and combined with the 763M wheels and Sport Cup 2 tires gives it an aggressive stance, plus tons of extra grip. Add to that the Dinan rear toe-link kit and front tension strut ball joint and everything is nice and tight. No rubber bushings, no rear alignment issues under power.

Since the car came with custom black mirrors, the M Performance black air breathers and black kidney grills, the M Performance trunk spoiler and rear diffuser was painted gloss black by IND to stay true to this exclusive theme. The trunk spoiler has the white CRT theme stripe to highlight the shape. The front splitter from Sterckenn is also painted gloss black and doesn't affect the car's ride height. There's no visible carbon fiber on the outside of the car.

The interior is another story. Here, exposed carbon fiber is everywhere! The interior has been upgraded with a variety of OEM parts including the red start button, LCI gauge cluster, IND center console arm rest in Alcantara, along with the Alcantara knee pad and dash trim insert. The M Performance steering wheel, shift knob and parking brake handle complete the look.

Under the hood, the car has the Dinan stage 4 Dinantronics tuner, along with all the related parts including the turbo upgrade (which is the stock turbo with upgraded parts), intercooler and intake. The Dinan exhaust wasn't utilized because the MPE was already installed by the factory.

To make sure you can actually enjoy the car on public roads, this car has high-end countermeasures installed discretely, including AL Priority laser blockers and a Bel STIR radar detector with the read out mounted inside the rear-view mirror.

The stock stereo was downgraded for this version of the car, so the sound needed an upgrade for street purposes. However, keeping the stock look was a priority. The perfect solution? Swap the factory speakers with a Focal BMW speaker kit and add a custom built fiberglass enclosure containing a 10" slim subwoofer on the left side of the trunk and cover it with carpeting dyed to match the stock look. A JL Audio 10 channel amp with Mosconi DSP for sound shaping was mounted to the trunk roof. You don't know anything is done to the system until you turn up the volume. All of the equipment combined added about 22 lbs in the trunk to balance out the slight front weight bias of the M2.

There's some basic coding work done to the car as well. The raised speed limiter from the factory at 168 mph has been turned off all together. The mirrors fold automatically upon locking. There are no seatbelt chimes, warnings or start-up windows to "accept".

Finally, because this car is meant to be driven on the street and on the track, the entire car (except the roof and trunk lid) has been wrapped in Xpel paint protection film. That also means the factory hip paint protection stickers have been removed for a nice clean side profile. The windows are tinted with 20% 3M ceramic film and the windshield with 70% ceramic film. It's Florida after all.

My personal thoughts? I love driving this car. The 6 speed is smooth and easy to use in traffic or under power. I personally love the fact this car does not have the parking sensors in the rear or front bumpers. Makes for such a clean look. I've used multiple suspension settings and continue to experiment for track and street.

The only thing I really wish it had that's missing is comfort access. I guess every car has to leave a box unchecked.

I'm considering doing the focal upgrade as well to my PE. Was it worth it? I've heard good things...
