Whirring noise from drive shaft
Hi! I recently bought a 2017 M2 and just noticed a light whirring sound at (very) low speeds, mainly when slowly pulling away from a complete stop. As it’s speed dependent only and unaffected by gear choice (1st or 2nd), i guess i’m hearing the drive shaft spinning, maybe coming from the carrier/support bearing. As i have an oil change booked next week, should i mention this at the dealer, or is this a common/normal drivetrain noise? I’m under warranty until may, so if there’s a potential issue i’d like to get it looked at asap.

It's normal; all M torque-vectoring diffs, from the 1M to M6, makes a sort of low, mechanical whining sound.. It gets worst sometimes when you're sharply turning.. Nothing to be alarmed about, just the nature of the vehicle's mechanics.. But it cost nothing to ask the dealer to review and document your complain. They might flush the fluid, which never hurts |

Left my car at the dealership today to get it checked before my warranty expires in May. BMW called me a few hours later to let me know that they want to replace the differential and booked me an appointment in four weeks..
