I'm actually a fan of Japanese cars, and I frequently rent them, out of choice. The Japanese makers build quality cars, for the price they ask. I have owned at least as many Japanese made cars as I have owned German ones.

In a summary statement, most Japanese cars are reliable, and a good value. On average, their customer service cannot be beat. I have owned more Subarus than any other Japanese brand, but also have owned a Honda, Acuras, and a Lexus. All of them were manual transmission cars other than a brief sojourn with an Acura MDX.

There is a certain something present in some German cars that is lacking in Japanese cars, however this certain something is becoming increasingly rare. In a world of similar, automatic transmission luxury cars, I know where I would position myself; it would be as a buyer of a Japanese car. BMW and the other German makers would not make the cut.

The PS4S tires are no match for the R compounds that Honda used for the 'ring time. Same goes for the Alfa QV. These manufacturers are stacking the deck using semi-slick rubber and bragging about it. If these two cars were baseball players, they probably wouldn't be voted into the MLB Hall of Fame.
They also used a roll cage bar but claim it didnt affect the chassis. Not sure how the full roll cage bar doesn't. It wasn't a real production type R, it was somewhat modified.

I had a 2007 RDX Tech that had a Twin Scroll, so you are completely incorrect.

R Compound Tyres can make any car faster. No surprise.

They probably didn't pay the driver until he achieved that time.

And I bet he studied the ring for years before ever driving the track.

So it's modified. Ha!

I bet dackalone can easily post a M2 that records a faster time than this.

Has anyone seen what dealers are selling them for? I know the MSRP is $34k. I stopped in to a local dealer that had one in the showroom. Big sign on the windshield read "Not for Sale". I asked about having the newest hot Civic in a showroom & not being available. Salesman told me they are hard to get & they need to keep one for folks to see... and that they had yet to figure out the 'market adjustment'.
So, in other words, an M2 for Honda then. ?

Did they offer to show you to a lower line Civic and/or step you to an Accord with a great lease ... just like at the BMW store ?

I would have actually been impressed if she had an M2 6MT.

I'm sure an an LBB DCT M2 looks nice next to the minivan though, and certainly a lot better than a blue Honda Civic Type R.

I really like the Civic type-r. The design is a little over the top, but I would have loved this car when I was younger. I like the tech behind the car and the way Honda designed the fwd system to handle torque steer.

The interior is probably my favorite part about the car. I love the thick steering wheel, and the way that they have the spot for your phone to charge. It seems that Honda made this car all about fun, with the consumer in mind, and I like that.

I've owned other Japanese cars but never a Honda, but have always liked them.

If I had to stick to a budget of $35k for a DD, the CTR would have been an easy and obvious choice (it’s beginning to be available at msrp). Def not a fan of the overzealous styling but there are ways to tone it down like going with white, cover the fake vents with body color panels, wrap the fake CF parts with body color vinyl, and replace the rear wing and wheels, etc.

I sat in one in a car show. The front bucket seats are sublime while the rest of interior quality is on par with average econo compacts. Rear seat fabric is garbage material best reserved for hated in-laws. Instrument cluster graphic is not particularly aesthetically pleasing but I do love how the most important info are prominently displayed within a small area.

If I wanted front wheel drive I'd buy front wheel drive.

A Civic is a great kids car.

Even though I have a M2, I’m a Honda fan. Despite the polarizing styling, I believe Honda knocked the Type R out of the park. I love it and is a great performance to $$$ ratio. I will take a M2 over a Type R anyday but I appreciate what Honda has done. RWD will be my favorite drivetrain but it’s cool to see Honda put out a kick-ass performance FWD car.

After all most of us bought the M2 because it was fun and I never expected the M2 to have any special track times. I just appreciate what I have and what Honda brought to the hot hatch market.

I literally just posted this in an M2 Gran coupe thread. Well not the kids part but I would have to agree with that as well. I debated getting a Civic lease vs the E46 convertible my daughter rolls in but ease of maintenance and lower insurance costs on the older bmw are good thus far.

Thank you! I feel the same way, though it was much closer for me between the M2 and the CTR. I ended up with the M2 that I ordered at MSRP as I simply do not believe in paying ADM (CTRs were marked up 10k+ in Cali).

Honda never released info on the tires for their lap time but I suspect r compounds at least if not full slicks plus the roll cage. The civic type r is slower then the M2 both from a standing stop and a roll. The M2 did a 1:26.2 and the CTR did a 1:28.2 on the grand tour test track.

Nothing really other than being completely boring. I drive a refrigerator box looking VW Jetta to work everyday, at least it's fun to drive while returning 35MPG. (1.8 TSI engine).
