Vehicle info Distance traveled greater than odometer?
This may sound a bit strange;
My M2 came with 8 miles on the odometer, 8.4 on the trip odometer, when I picked it up from the dealer lot last month. I now have 353.5 miles on trip odometer, I haven't yet reset the mileage, and 353 on the odometer. Interestingly when I go into Vehicle info it shows that the car has travelled 370 miles distance? It seems the vehicle has gone 17 more miles than the odometer shows! I initially noticed this last week when i had 310 miles on the odometer and 327 miles distance on the vehicle info screen! First time I checked the info screen! I have not reset the vehicle info! How can this be? Could the vehicle have been taken off the assembly line for a "test drive" and then had the odometer reset?? Something seems a bit odd. see attached photos Would welcome any thoughts! |

The trip odometer includes tenths of miles. thus 353.5 on trip odometer vs 353 on the odometer reading which has no tenths of miles. Yes for that I would expect a round up or down of 1 mile at most.
But the odometer rounding down 17 miles??? Doesn't make sense to me. If the odometer, which should be the true mileage, presently at 353, were greater than the Vehicle Info: Distance reading presently at 370, I wouldn't have any concerns!!! The 17 mile differential (always 17 miles less on the odometer vs what is reported on Vehicle Info: distance) has been consistent since I first noticed this about 70-100 miles ago. Unaccounted miles solved?
M3 Adjuster has come up with a very plausible explanation!
