If there's no German production I doubt there will be ED available. Just like the X5 model currently has no ED because it's built in the US only.

You can only do EU delivery on cars built in Germany.

Imagine that.........

In Canada there is no discount doing EU delivery, but we do get it as a no charge option.

There probably isn't enough but at the wages being paid it is so cheap to train people for as long as it takes. All skilled labor had to start as unskilled at some point.

BMW still sells a couple of 3ers and 4ers Europe. Production of the 3er and 4er aren't going to go away. The article mentions that X3 production will replace 3er production in South Africa. So production of the 3er/4er will be in Germany and Mexico. They only build 3er sedans in South Africa and that's the only model they refer to building in this new plant.

I'm not terribly excited by the thought of BMWs produced in Mexico, but my bet is they're aware of the perception problem and that quality control will be very tight. Plus the new plant will have BMW's latest and greatest production technology and BMW has some very impressive production plants.

All BMWs global manufacturing strategy is conceived right down to the exact quality standards of a vehicle programme designed and manufactured in Germany.

The new Audi Q5 expected in the next few weeks is manufactured in Mexico now.

This has been in the pipeline for awhile. It might be time for my wife and I to leave BMW after 11 cars. We are all about Euro Delivery. If that comes to an end on the 3/4 series and M cars we are gone.

Do you truly think there's one iota of a chance that will happen? It's not going to happen.

I understand if the 3 series isn't built in Germany, then there is no ED. But the article doesn't mention if production will move to 100% Mexico, or if still some units will be made in Germany. Also curious how this impacts the M3. No more 3 series or M3 EDs? That would be a crime.

Luckily I would never buy anything as big as the current 3 series. Hopefully they continue to build the M2 in EU. Looking at their current crop of cars, that is the only one that really interests me. And my wife has decided that our next car will be done via the Canadian group M delivery, and I am OK with that.

New Mexican vs Mexican cuisine.

Who cares where it's built? As long as the product coming off the line is of quality. No reason to believe the quality from Mexico is going to be any better or worse than that coming out of Germany, South Africa, Spartanburg, etc.

To suggest that the people of Mexico don't have the skills to build a quality product is ridiculous at best.

Plus think of the pluses. Special order cars coming from Mexico won't have such a long lead time.

Not a fan. I imagine this means no ED for US Customers of 3/4-series products. Lots of fail.

Sorry but this is a stupid move. Anything that comes out of Mexico is complete and utter garbage, I'm sorry to say. Lovely people, food, and country, but they shouldn't be putting cars together. The VW models that come out of there are plagued with quality problems. If its not a BMW built in Germany anymore, then what's the point?. May as well go and support American.

Spartanburg and Rosslyn strongly disagree.
