So we can expect a 2018 prototype at Frankfurt Motor Show? Top version will be an M9 this time?

Why not? Create another new product line like the 2 series. Series lineage doesn't have to be adhered to. A fresh start.

But SOP won't be 2020 nor 2019 right? Is it the ix they're referring to in the magazine?

R8

I have an R8 V10. They wont do it. The new head of M division is from Audi and he hates manual transmissions. I spend 150+ on a car i want the choice to row my own gears....

Uh-huh. Will this be before or after the new M1?

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see BMW commit and release something like this. This carrot's just been dangled too many times for me to take any of these rumours seriously though.

The 9er will finally get share its architecture with the next generation of Rolls-Royce models such as the all new advanced and evolutionary Phantom.

Hasn't it pretty much been confirmed that the next big BMW will be the 9 series? This 8 series resurrection seems to come up once per year since the E31 went out of production.

I look forward to saying '9er' over and over again. 9er.

This is kind of believable. As BMW is pushing to make the 6 series smaller, which would probably put it near the size or a little larger than the e class coupe. Now the 8 series bmw can be a director competitor to the s class coupe.
Hopefully this comes to life.

I am all for an 8 series.

But they shouldn't need an 8 series to be able to compete with the s class sales, they just need a better 7 series.

I would trade my m3, m5, x5, and 7 in for an 8. I know I know the math doesn't add up to 8 but that's how excited I would be to see the 8 come back!!

There was a super car planned, not to compete with the R8, rather with the 918 etc. A couple of prototypes were already build, unfortunately the project was scrapped by the new CEO.

But it'll still be SOMETHING!

I will forever be fantasizing about an M990Li V16, however unlikely.

Why didn't we see these more distinctive lines for G11? It seems that all the innovation in exterior design went to i.

I think this too late now.
