I would honestly be surprised if 19s weren't standard.
EDIT: I skipped over the fact the M4 doesn't come with 19s, but we'll have to see what the M4 competition package brings as that's where the 1M got its wheels from. I guess I'll concede it probably won't have 19s lol.

I also was thinking of posting about the lack of decent color choices available on recent M-sport and M models... but that reminded me that the car I drive only came in 3 colors lol.

The way I see it, we need some more colors besides various shades of grey. Something original is always great too. Long Beach Blue better be amazing.

They can remove the rear seats as I'll never use them, but it's going to be too wide for me anyways with those big wheel arches so it's a non starter

19's aren't standard on the M3 or M4, why would they be standard on the cheaper M2? I highly doubt they will be standard, there's just no way a cheaper model comes standard with a feature that the halo car (the M4) does not.

But I do think 19's on this car will be perfect. 18's are a little small.

I just want to see another bare bones enthusiasts' car. All this talk of full leather and bloated technology make me want to suggest you guys pick up a 640i.
This x1000.

IMO BMW has totally lost the plot with its model positioning. Now that they have established the M235i they should use that designation for people who want more power and handling over the standard car along with the full-array tv screens, back-up cameras, HUD, 68-way adjustable electric seats, anti-collision radar, IMAX surround sound, cappuccino dispenser and whatever other sh#t goes into building a 3,500lb+ small coupe. They could then return the true "M" series to being track-capable street cars that put the experience of driving ahead of unnecessary creature comforts for those of us who don't want them. For those that say the car wouldn't sell that way, fine, build it in limited numbers and make your gravy on the standard and Mx35i models. While such M series cars might not be the company's cash cow it would help to maintain the cred that sells all of the other models to people who like the idea of M but just can't do without their heated massage seats.

Then don't tick that option box when you order. Pretty simple. I absolutely agree that the fluff shouldn't be standard. The M2 should definitely be more focused than the M3/M4, with hopefully a bit more driving feel and organic feeling.

But forgoing power seats or nav doesn't suddenly mean the car is for hardcore enthusiasts. Ever driven a truly minimalist car like a 911 GT3 with sport buckets, Lotus, etc? Even an M2 without power seats, leather, etc. is going to be significantly heavier and less focused than those cars. So it's a spectrum out there. If BMW can get the weight down to 3300 .lbs with no options, then we have a victory. For those who can tolerate another 50 .lbs in options, cool.

Having a car that is comfortable yet able to work on a race track is the whole benefit of buying a BMW. Otherwise what's the point? Might as well buy something that was designed to be a sports car from the ground up (like a Cayman) instead of what is essentially a well-modified touring car.

Making the fluff optional will keep everyone happy. Some people don't want the fluff because they think the 20 .lbs is unacceptable in a 3500 .lbs car. Others don't want to spend the money. Personally I don't need or want things like automatic trunk closers, but shoot me for wanting leather so the interior feels better when I'm driving in traffic.

I agree with what you are saying. The only thing that sucks IMO is that BMW is doing packages now. If I want Comfort Access (which doesn't add any weight, nor is it complicated), but I'd have to drop thousands of $.

I don't mind that they make options available if it was a la carte. I'd rather see BMW really surprise us by having a base price in the high 40s. That would be a hell of a car for that price IMO.

I'll be very curious to see how they do the packages. I've read that they want the M2 to be the "affordable" M car, yet they also say US buyers want luxury which is why they have NAV standard.

I wouldn't be upset if I had to pay for NAV standard, but I probably wouldn't check the box if it was an option. I'm hoping Apple Carplay will be something that would be standard by 2016 (and work correctly). These are the options I'd probably get:

Extended Leather
19" black wheels
HK Stereo
6 speed manual
Comfort Key Access (if available by itself)
*Active suspension (read that the M3 non-active is not as stiff as Active sport mode)

If I could get all that for something like 53k I'd be extremely happy.

Same here. The only item that I'd want in the package you're talking about ($4k Executive Package on the M4) is the satellite radio. But I'm not going to spend $4k for that.

On the other hand, for those ticking every option, the packages save a ton of $$. Just look at Porsche's option model. BMW probably likes the packages because it simplifies manufacturing and forces you to spend more $$.

My previous three cars all had the S54 engine and it was more than enough power for me. That said, since the M235i is somewhat similar, all they need to do is ///M the body, LSD, better braking, exhaust, suspension, 6-speed manual, no sun/moon roof (carbon fiber would be nice), cloth seats, no packages/options, maybe 19" wheels...for around $50K. Done!

at least with BMW you can always turn the sat radio on with bimmertech instead of buying a package.

did that on my 3 series, no way i was paying for premium just to get sat radio

The 1M came with 19" ZCP wheels from the M3, so I see where he's coming from. But I expect to have a choice this time around (and I'll pick 18s, I think the car looks great with them)

I know a lot of people are asking for iDrive delete, but I have a feeling that's going to be included for sure. There are too many car customization functions in it now and it's such a BMW fixture that I doubt they'll offer it as a delete. Just my 2 cents.

I would like to see at least 375 hp and 400 lbs ft tq. Also, I would like led taillights, blinkers, and headlights on the car. Since it's an M car it should have these things at a minimum.

19's are standard on M3/4 in the UK, we don't even get the choice of the 18" wheels here.

And please....DCT as an option not JUST manual.

Let the manual be base, to meet the romantic manual issues, but have that box to tick for DCT.
I've been a manual guy for more decades than I care to count, but I like the ability of NOT having to clutch every shift on every street, on every daily drive I take.

Easily done by BMW-- please make the option available.

On the individual colors, all depends on which factory will make the M2. Would be nice!

Would be nice though impossible via factory to have a stripped down model with rear seat delete and roll cage.

It exists, but it's called M235i Racing.
