Great news, I also need to go back to my dealer as they recently replaced them with new (old) style tips, but as expected, still with the rattle. Could you also make a picture of the tips installed on your car? I’m curious how they look

Had a crazy cold start rattle but no other issues when I first bought my 2018. They replaced the bushings and it was still a small rattle for a while but acceptable. Winter came and it started going nuts again on cold start (my car is garaged but passive heating, usually above 50*). One day it started a horrible noise 1700-1800 rpm's which was driving me nuts. Took it in to have it checked out and the tech put his hand over the valve solenoid on the top of the tips on the passenger side during startup and it stopped. They replaced my whole exhaust under warranty, problems gone. Said if it comes back they'll replace it again.

Nice to be taken care of, and clear they aren't willing to accept the rattle just like I'm not.

Success! The new style 2019 M2C carbon fiber exhaust tips with clamps fixes the cold start rattle. The part # is 18302456072.

I couldn't be happier with how my dealer handled this. They went above and beyond, acknowledging from the beginning the noise wasn't acceptable. They replaced the whole exhaust system, then tried more of the old style tips, and eventually agreed to upgrade me to the new M2C version tips, which solved the 20-30 second cold start noise.

Here are some pics of the new style tips as requested. You cannot see the clamps unless you get down really low.

M performance exhaust rattle solved?!

I've had the mpe for about 6 months now and I wouldn't trade it for anything else. It sounds and looks amazing and was easy to instal. The only downside is the rattle it makes during cold starts and a low rpm (1000-1500). Many members here say the tips cause this bit I removed them and still have the rattle. I then started the car without the tips again and listened closely, the rattle came from the right side or passenger side of the exhaust. I thought it was a hanger but turns out it's the exhaust valve. I did some research and found that it's the metal wire pin that connects the motor and the actual valve together. Apparently this is a common bmw issue. I plan to solve it this weekend by removing the exhaust and replacing the pin. I will update when I'm finished.

The pin failure is common. Even in the OEM. I took the assembly off and then used epoxy to glue the pin to the valve.

Presto. No more rattles.

If it’s not the tips it’s usually the slip joint at the mid pipe connection (on the OG):

I checked that! It's 100% the right side (passenger) exhaust valve right behind the tips.

Hi

It's a CS style spoiler. I believe Autoteknic sell them on their website.

Update! Fixed!

Update on my fix! Turns out the mpe doesn't have the pins the help the valve and it's a direct drive, this was not the problem but what was the problem is the small metal heat shield between the valve motor and the actual valve on the exhaust, it's a metal plate the same size as the valve motor and when not torqued down hard enough it will rattle! I tightened the 3 bolts on the valve motor and it's fixed!

My valve rattle is also fixed. The dealer replaced the whole exhaust. I also replaced the exhaust tips screws, these seem to have a greater surface connection. They also look better

The little ones are BMW OEM, but I replaced them with the bigger ones, since the OEM is poor quality. Part number is: 18302413820
