Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe

I read reviews and knew it would be loud especially at cold start so shame on me but this thing is brutally loud at start up and I actually do like a few of my neighbors so this is a problem for me and I need some options. Other mods may have an impact on sound as well.

Mods I have:
- Fabspeed Sport Cat Downpipe
- Dinan cold air intake
- Wagner Evo 1 Comp Intercooler
- Dinan resonator delete straight pipe
- Stock exhaust

1. I know you can give it a bit of clutch and throttle at start up to get the rpms' 1100 or so and it takes the edge off of it. But this isn't reasonable to do every time I start the vehicle.

2. It's likely the resonator delete is adding to the noise level. So if I put the stock resonator back in, how much would this help?

3. BM3 has a tune with a cold start up delete function. I wasn't planning on tuning yet but this could be an option, a fairly expensive option. Is there another way to code out cold start?

Last option would be to sell it but i'm not there yet.

The way I deal with it:

1. Close valve(s) ( I have a CG VSC-1 valve controller)
2. Raise rpms slightly after starting the car (100-200 and hold for ~30 seconds)

If you don't want to be doing that each time you cold start the car the only other options will be to either remove the cold start with a tune or to take the sport cat off. Re-adding the oem resonator won't help.

I think you have to consider getting new neighbours.

I have a stock exhaust other than the Fabspeed sport cat and really don't think it's that loud.

I have MPE and Fabspeed DP. And every single day I start it with the valves wide open. I never knew how loud it was until I had to run back into my house once because I forgot something. Getting to hear the car from the outside. It's embarrassingly loud and thought people would be pissed at me.

Anyway, when I saw my neighbors, I brought it up and they said they didn't care and the car sounds awesome. Granted it's only a couple times a year I start the car late at night or early morning. But they said they don't care cause it just lasts a couple seconds and then I drive off.

What I'm trying to get at is maybe your neighbors aren't as annoyed by it as you assume. Try asking them. Or keep a lookout at their behaviour around you. If one of them starts acting snotty around you, go up and ask "hey, I noticed a chance in your behavior since I got the exhaust put on my car. Is it too loud? I can do something about it" etc etc and try to work things out.

Can you explain this option further? My assumption is that the car starts in comfort with valves closes but maybe the valves open for cold start?

The FS sport cat/resonator delete combo is downright brutal upon start-up, especially when it's cold outside. It does settle down to a normal idle decibel but that 15 seconds seems like an eternity. Code in the cold start delete. I'm sure some tuner out there has this stand-alone option.

Car will be in comfort by default but even then the valve(s) are open for cold start.

Shutting the valve(s) manually will help a bit but won't solve the problem by itself. You have to also put your foot on the gas.

If that's too cumbersome just remove cold start with a tune or take the cat off.

Simple fix. BM3 tune and cold start delete. I have your same setup and startup is close to stock.

Good advice. My next door neighbor has a straight piped Harley so i'm sure he's okay with it.

Will probably go BM3 Tune.

I don’t have the resonator delete, but I do have the FabSpeed and I like cold start. The default BM3 setting is to delete it, so I have to go back in and manually re-enable it every time!

I've driven with the new sport cat a few days now and it seems to have toned down a bit. Maybe some carbon build up and/or the ECU is adapting but I quite like the sound and extra punch. Cold start is still brutal but BM3 or Evolve tune will tame that.

No, our cars have an oxygen sensor that’s constantly measuring mixture. The DME will adapt.

So it has a lot of adjustments then? Some Americans cars can not adjusts enough and car can run rich with no tune.

Why would the car run rich? I don't see the logic in how a downpipe would make the car add more fuel.

Not BMW. It auto-adjusts constantly allowing customers to use downpipes or any other mod without having to tune the car.

I have no idea. I'm not an engineer and it is just something I heard. Either way, I guess I don't have to worry about it.
