Carbahn Tune
Hey Folks - Anyone running the Carbahn tune? If so, for how long, and what do you think of it?

I asked the forum the same same question a few months ago and thought the interest in this tune wasn't very strong. The gains aren't as impressive as BM3, but I'd rather have lower gains knowing I'm covered by the warranty at least.

I totally agree. I love my M2 and have no regrets, but I came from a more powerful car and I miss the highway acceleration pull. I'm not looking for 500 HP. I just want a healthy bump and reliability with a warranty.

If this dyno result is to be believed then the tune should be good. A decent bump in the torque at low RPMs and more HP up top. |

Yup, definitely. I was looking at this one as well for a little more money: https://carbahnautoworks.com/product...56lb-ft-fw-tq/
I would option it at $2100 (no tablet).

I also called and asked if I can add an intake without affecting the warranty. They said the Dinan one should be fine. Just wish it didn't have that stupid brace cutting issue!

Agreed but FWIW a brand new OEM brace is something like $40-50 if I remember correctly if you ever wanted to revert to the stock intake

I was going to reply with the same thing yesterday, but then I assumed maybe his concern is driving with a weakened driver's side brace throwing off balance.

The Carbahn tune is expensive for what you get, I totally agree, but I'm paying for the piece of mind and reliability.

BM3 has a lot more options but zero liability in case of a failure in the car. They could have a "better" tune on paper with the highest hp/torque numbers in order to sell as many tunes as possible and no risk in case they damage someone's car. If a tuner offers warranty, that shows that they take the safety aspect of their tunes more seriously.

That's not the case with Bootmod3 where users can change settings, table values, etc...

That ability to change so many settings is exactly what can increase the risk of running a tune that may cause issues. But if the tune is developed by someone who knows what they are doing and they take responsibility if something goes wrong then the risk is reduced.

Bootmod3 customers can adjust maps if they wish to. Most do not do that because they are worried they might damage the car. If Bootmod3 offered a warranty on the car's components, a lot more customers would start tuning their vehicles and causing issues. Even if bootmod3 warranties off the shelf maps only, customers can claim they were running the OTS bm3 map when the damage occurred and its almost to prove otherwise

I was looking into if a standard user can custom tune their car and I'm not sure they can. I do not see any options in the BM3 interface to adjust parameters and make your own tune. I think maybe you have to register as a tuner to unlock those features, but no, nothing like that is available from the get-go. |
