Had a few shops around me quote $300-400 for the install of the SSK. I did the UCP myself (super easy comparatively).

Me too, there couldn't be any less slop with the AS kit.
The Turner bushing seems odd. The front two bushes are where the shift cradle is attached to the gearbox. This is what provides the direct action feel. The rear bush is where the cradle is mounted to the chassis. Stiffening this will pass engine / gearbox vibration to the chassis unnecessarily. |

Someone asked me for thoughts on the AS SSK. Here goes:
I like it. 20% reduction is as high as I would recommend (I think much shorter throws may make it difficult to get gear engagement feedback, especially at the track). I chose the 80a+ bushing. I received only one bushing from Ron (mistake - should have been two). This was found when the car was already on the lift, exhaust down, etc. Ron apologized and recommended placing his bushing on the driver's side and leaving the OE bushing on the right side. In terms of noise, there was a slight whirling sound at the beginning (expected, as described by Ron). Either I got used to it or it has quieted down after a couple hundred miles. There's enough noise coming from the clutch engagement/disengagement and differential in this car that, to me, make any minor shifter noise irrelevant. I have no regrets. I hope this helps. |

I'm close to a decision, just not sure about the choice of bushings. Seems even with the 80a+ bushings you still got noticeable amount of NVH, but at a level I would likely be fine with as well. Curious if the other style bushings would've amplified the whirring sound more. Is there any more slop or play with the 80a+ bushings? Thanks |

Nice shifter. Will this fit the M2, or do you need an adapter/extension?

Anyone know where to buy another shift boot? I broke mine and the shift knob still wont come out of the plastic ring lol. I figured it would be easier to just super glue the shifter back on since the wires won't come out and just use a new boot than destroy this shift knob/boot anymore.
Also this has been reiterated throughout the entire thread but the AS SSK + UCP are definitely worth it. The UCP was really weird at first but it is much more comfortable than the normal clutch position. The only thing I don't really like about the UCP is that it is kinda slippery. I got the SSK with 20% reduction, which I kind of wish I got a little less, but it is definitely the highest I would go. I also got a 10mm drop which is perfect for raceseng shift knobs, since I felt it was a little too high on the OEM shifter. |

They all have specs listed. measure your OEM and then look at the ones your interested in.. I switched to this one: https://www.raceseng.com/rondure-met...w-shifter-arm# For me the additional height and shape was perfect. It also is 1.8 lbs

Yep what he said on it depends which one. Since the ones with ology cores will most likely sit higher than their regular slammer counterparts. The vert ones will probably be taller, but I've never used those before.

Depends on which shifter your car came with probably. Mine wouldn't come off, but I had the shift knob that is supposed to light up or something, but that feature was never installed/wired in. If its the regular shift knob I think you just have to take the clip out. Mine had the wires and clips inside the plastic ring.

Can you post any pictures of your issue? Maybe I can help? The BMW shift knobs and boots are one piece plastic-welded together. They are purchased as a single item from BMW. The knob has to be broken off the ring that is glued into the shift boot. This leaves the ring in place which cannot be removed from the boot fabric. I then used a 20mm drill bit by hand to open up the ring so it fitted over the raceseng adapter post, then the new knob just screws down over the top of the boot covering the ring. |
