Latest ISTEP flashed.. much improved

Continuing on from my previous post...

http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1407645

I've flashed the car yet once again to the latest ISTEP. Which should be v62.4 psdz. Which is ISTEP: F020-17-07-505, F020-17-07-507 is out which I may acquire..

Few modules were flashed, two of note were the DME and NBT.

iDrive & CarPlay is much faster. 0 bluetooth issues at all and it works basically always. I haven't flashed ID6 just yet but I suspect it'll work just as well.

Now for the good part.. for those that have the 6MT, you might notice the car has a bit of "lag" in between shifts at high RPM, as if the car is pulling back boost before you get shoved. You also get the "farts" on every shift..

Well.. thats now gone, the antilog is a bit more aggressive so you'll get a later "fart" if you don't shift fast enough. But if you do no fart and just instant power between gears.

Pops & bangs are more consistent and just as loud. Overall it feels like a much more refined setup over 61.4

As always if you're in the OC area I'd be more than happy to flash this for you + coding.

On my M2 (build late July '16 EU spec) I did the last firmware upgrade in BMW few weeks ago. The DCT is much smoother now even in Sport+ and the turbo peak now is 1.25bar vs. 0.90/0.92bar (386HP crank 542Nm on dyno) that reached before. Now I feel the car faster.

Is there any way we can check the software version on our car?

That screen shows the bluetooth software. You want the navigation version which usually can be correlated to an i-step. Should be of the format NBT_******. Just look for it in the menus. It is there.

Hmmmm mine needs to go in for its free service in the next couple weeks. Wonder if I can get them to do the latest firmware?

Doubt it...ask discussed, the dealerships are deathly afraid of the liability of flashing car firmware for no reason. They will only update you if you complain of a specific problem that can be resolved by a potential firmware update (YMMV of course based on the dealer and relationship)

Update: just took it for a short rip after installing the M Perf shift knob. Can confirm 0 lag between shifts, and monintoring the boost I can see the wastegate seems to be closed during off-throttle, still making about .2-.4 bars of boost off throttle in sport/sport+ around 4K RPM.

Shifting through the gears is instant power response 0 lag at all. Top peak boost I saw in 70F ambient and about 35C IAT was 1.2X bar. Which is just over 17-18psi..

You have the stock software that came on my car as well before I updated.

If you're going to the next cruise I can probably flash. Will just need a donor car for power. I can do the rest

Yes, I confirm no lag between shifts and more responsiveness. I just checked the peak boost and the top now is 4-5 psi more than before.
I'm using always Bimmerlink and the Vgate OBD dongle to monitoring the car's values.

Thank you cookiesowns, because I decided to do this firmware upgrade after reading your first post at the end of July.

I just took the car to the dealer and I asked to them to download the latest software/firmware version available for my car (beginning of September).
They said to me ok but they couldn't do under warranty so I had to pay for 2hours labor.
Unfortunately they were not able to say which firmware number version they downloaded...

I just can say, in my case/on my car, it worth a lot.

I’m interested in getting this done. In layman’s terms what exactly am I asking my dealer to do and to what minimum version(s)? My car is an MY2017, so has CarPlay and IDrive 5. Thanks in advance.

Complain that the connected drive apps don't always work and you want a firmware update.

Actually that's not a stretch. I often have issue with those. I'll make a call today.
