A reliable source commented already in March 2021 - in a thread that is closed in the meantime - that the G87 M2 story will be "starting with a 450ps 6MT Pure":
Quote:
I'm betting G87 will have S58, adaptive, CF roof, and improved interior. And it will outperform F87 in every way...just like G82 outperforms F82. If not, why on earth would anyone trade up? Looks are a different deal, and some won't like increased size (I'm betting roughly E92 size). For me, the G87 may be a potentially perfect replacement for my current M3. If the c/cs version is good enough, I may let my F87 go too.
Quote:
Size doesn't increase dramatically with the exception of track/body width. G42 is as wide as current F87 with G87 increased even further. The G87 is going to be a rather special car. It will be the final non-hybridized ICE volume production model released, starting with a 450ps 6MT Pure.
Later in 2021, distinguished forum member ynguldyn reported the 455hp power output figure for the G87 M2:
Quote:
Same S58 as G80/G82 under the hood, tuned to 455hp. RWD - of course.
Now, for those unfamiliar with him: if he reports a precise figure, it means that he has definitely seen that figure (he ain't the type of person guessing figures - if he does, he explicitly indicates it ("likely", "possibly", etc.)). His accuracy track record is impressive.

455hp: quite a bold move by BMW to launch the M2 G87 with similar power as the F87 M2 CS.

Of course the question is how much more will the G87 weigh. If it weighs 350lbs more than the F87...there goes the extra horsepower.

Wait so are they redesigning the headlights for this one? Notice how the lights are covered in camo and the bumper shape...

There is no precedent for BMW designing headlights bespoke to a specific M model but I believe this is first because the G87 M2 is supposedly going to have a laser light option, which is not currently available on the regular 2 Series offering..

Yes they are. The M2 headlights are not shared with the 2 series.

Sadly it doesn't appear that they bothered to change the rear taillights which IMO are too small for such a wide car and look weirdly out of place.

Here are a couple of comparisons between a G42 and F87. Look how comically small the taillights are on the G42 compared to the F87.

The taillamps weren't even the worst part of that front page feature...

This design language is really just a let down compared to what we had previously. IMO.

That looks pretty good. Honestly, squaring off the lights makes it look a lot better to my eyes. Not beautiful, but significantly better looking than the M240i to me.

It looks like they've moved the efficient dynamic vents from the bumper up to the bottom inner corner of the headlights

It actually might help with cooling the laser headlights as well

That does look okay…wish they would have kept the quintessential round headlights. Now we wait….

It’ll definitely make the best of an otherwise OK looking car with weird headlights and tail lights, but that shouldn’t be the bar. Bit of a shame really.

I will be shocked if that bumper is real hoping they picked one up and put it on to fuck with people. It would be such a brake from there design language of the brand and the car it would not make any sense. I think it will look allot like the stander 2 series bumper but wider and more aggressive like the concept sketches. This is from my professional experience and knowledge that bumper will not look like the leaked one.

Agreed. If that leaked bumper is indeed real, it will be a HUGE step down from the F87 generation bumper design.

Although I feel like the tail lights fit the F87 very well, I believe they are quite large, and if you had seen the G series lights first you'd think the F87 lights were massive. Just a quick google search of 2021 sporty cars will show that very few have such large tail lights, so the fact that BMW has chosen to make them smaller is par for the course.

However, I do think they look too small for the design direction of the car, but there is little I like about the G anyway, so it suits me fine.
