Now that the engine is sorted out I love the car!
I wish I could keep it and have both cars, but depreciation is steep on the M2 Comp.
The GT4 will definitely be slower then my tuned M2C in street driving.
We did some test runs after new tune and the car did a 100-200km/h time of 6.6s.

I'm thinking of getting a m140i xdrive as second car. The B58 engine has huge potential and now that the new Supra uses that engine there will be plenty of aftermarket part.

Your goals don't sound like that of M2 buyers, which, in general, prefer handling over outright speed. And the way you cry in your beer about your heavy-handed modding woes, after getting a relatively new model, makes me think you're that type of guy that has more money than brains. If you want a heavy mod-path on a turbo car, buy something a few years old so all the mistakes have been made and the solutions exist.

So a tune and exhaust goes as heavy modding now? Sounds like you have a lot of car experience....
So i don't have brains just because I have a business to run and don't have hours a day to read the latest on the forums?

I'm just sharing my experience for those considering buying a new M2C hoping to tune it with Bootmod3 or similar for easy gainz.

Any mod on a car that isn't tried and true is wasting your time, and it doesn't sound like you have a lot of that. You put yourself into this mess chasing hp.

You want easy gains on a M2C, wait a year or two.

Ive read rumors that they are just cheap, something about access to the timing chain? Cant remember exactly what the concept was.... least they could do is key it to further reduce the odds of slip.

its probably would've be cheaper if you just kepted your og m2 and just went with some pure turbos or a big aftermarket single turbo conversion.

i'm not trying to flame you..but it doesnt seem like there was anything wrong with the m2c. It seems like you just threw a bunch of parts at it without really planning or researching what you were doing.

You have to be careful when you try to garage engineer stuff...most people do it wrong, thats why BMW locks the dmes and use enterprise level encryption compared to other oems.

thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of us, so that we don't make the same mistake you did.

everyone too busy defending how great M2C is in here that's all. ignore them and get what makes you happy.

I regret trading my 2018 LCI M2 for the M2 competition. The manual transmission in the comp was awful and the exhaust note was equally awful comparatively. Just recently sold the M2 competition since its new garage mate, a 2017 Lotus Evora 400 turned out to be the car I thought the M2 could be.... I don’t like to mod my cars. The Lotus handles like a dream and sounds ridiculous!!

I respect your grievances but for the record, the manual transmission in the M2 and M2C are identical.

JUST curious,
Did you buy your M2 used and M2C new?
Because when I first got my M2C it was an AWFUL shifting transmission, very rough to engage. Once I got past the 1200 mile break in and the diff fluid was changed, it drove like a dream.

Sorry OP... sometimes it’s just time to move on and it sounds like that’s the case for you... What’s the next car?

This thread is from last September. Somebody who recently sold theirs for a lotus revived this thread a few days ago.

I have a post July 2020 build m2 competition.

I have managed to tune the car by replacing my DME with a pre lock one.

Had to change 4 modules including the gauge cluster and head unit (module). Works fine tune it as normal.

When the time comes I can pull it out throw my stuff back in or even warranty issue BMW won’t ever know anything was touched.

I don’t know if anyone else has had success in doing so I mite be the first. Tried putting an M4 DME in but their was issues with the power class and everything worked but it kept getting into reduced power. Using an M2 Comp DME works perfectly,

Could always sell the set up when I’m done I’m sure it’ll be a hot option for people wanting to tune their cars post July DME locks

I used MHD trans tune, massive difference in smoothness. No jerking or any of that annoying stuff with slow driving. Very happy with the outcome. How it should’ve been from factory.

Hmmm you might be the first. How expensive was it to get the modules? I suspect there is a way to get an m4 dme to work with some more research.

The reason I don't like modding or major tuning is because one is trying to change a car to something completely different. In that case, why not just buy "that" car you're modding to in the beginning? I support the GT4 purchase because that is what you wanted in terms of driving experience.
