I also posted this in M2 vs forum...
Before getting the M2 Comp I had a OG M2, love the car! The N55 is a great engine, I had stage 2 with catless downpipes, Bms intake, JB4 with E30 mix. This setup made 480hp, I sold the car because I wanted more power and something that would be good at track driving right out of the box. Was looking for a used GT3 for several weeks, not finding one I was considering a M4 CS. The S55 has some much more potential power with many cars producing +700whp. M2 Competition 2020 I have owned the M2 Comp for 3 months now and here are some quick thoughts. So much bang for buck car! What else would you get that has this performance for the price? I live in Europe so my car has the OPF, this has been my major issue with the car. Stock the M2c is way to quite so a exhaust is mandatory. I got the Milltek system with OPF delete and decat downpipes. Sound has been crazy good after that. One thing that nobody knew when the exhaust system was being installed was that the ECU has been locked by BMW during RIS the day before. The problem after that has been that the DME/ECU is locked in the 2020 model. So there is no software tuning ability at all for this model. So I ordered a RaceChip figuring it would only take a few weeks for ProtuningFreaks to fix the problem. The RaceChip has been okay giving the car 515Hp, this piggyback is very simple and does not clear codes like downpipes or OPF. So the downpipes give a constant CEL but the big pain has been the OPF system. There is a built in sensor in the engine that checks the air flow resistance through the OPFs. The Millteks that are on my car have no filter so it trips the sensor and puts the car in Limp Mode. First time was super scary! Felt like I lost all boost. Car goes down to 10% power. This happens EVERY time on 5000rpm and also happens when boost is high. It's almost impossible to overtake without going in to limp-mode. Since this has happened I have not felt like using the car, just been waiting for a tuning company to figure it out. So I decided to sell the car instead but no dealerships wants the car with this problem. So I have the choice of removing all the parts and sell it stock or taking apart the engine, remove the DME and send it in for a hardwire tune to the ECU. I went for the Bench tune and now the car makes 550whp without the Limp mode problem. I should have made this decision earlier and sent the ECU to one of the company's outside my country that could fix it. So here is my advice if you are thinking of getting a new M2 Competition. 1. Keep engine stock 2. Buy a used M4 that can be tuned |

Why didn't you research and figure this all out before deciding the M2c was the right car for you? I have friends that do the same thing, they either don't listen others or don't bother to do any legwork and end up throwing in the towel after losing a ton of money. I've never understood that mentality when it comes to large monetary purchases.
Reminds me of those that go out of their way to save a buck by getting a cheaper part only to find out it's inferior and end up getting the quality part later. In the end they pay way more for parts and/or labor. One step forward, two steps back. |

Its funny because you basically made every mistake you could.
You didnt understand the car and its limits in the EU. You tuned the car in the most incompatible way possible for the PPF model. (PPF removal without coding out the pressure sensor. Not knowing that the ECU is not cracked yet for 2020 and doing all those mods anyway.) A basic google search would tell you that you cannot remove the PPF without going to limp mode. The PPF sensor has to be coded out inside the ECU so a piggyback system wont work. I dont know what clowns you used to do the work but they should have known better as well. |

Couldn't you simply do a bench unlock and use whatever flash tuning you want and fix all your issues? Wait, the last line says you did that and now it all works. So why are you posting everywhere that you are selling and complaining about how it doesn't work?? I'm not seeing any issue other than you didn't do your homework properly first before spending money.

Some of these responders are reading what they want to se.
-I'm selling the car because I have not been able to enjoy it and have ordered a GT4 instead. -Car is completely fixed now and power is fantastic. -The car I bought was built 02/2019 and did not come with locked ECU. This was something Bmw dealership did on run in service without informing me. |

Good choice on the GT4 though. Great cars but I don't think the modding is going to be any easier/cheaper. |

Wow, I guess this is how the other half live? The car is fantastic in stock form, and if you wanted all that crap you've done you bought the wrong car in the first place. Might I suggest a new C8 Corvette?

Your ECU can be tuned. You aren't limited to a piggyback. A bench unlock has always been an available option. But w/e. I'm sure the next owner will enjoy it.

Heads up, a GT4 will be subject to EU regulations too. You better check, double check and triple check your decision process. Good luck with your GT4👍👍👍

GT4 is probably greatest sportscar worldwide on sale for that pricetag but the 6MT has long gearing(just like Mk1) and it has an engine you can't get '+100hp' out of with a tune. It's just as fast in a straight line as an M2C up to 80/90mph or maybe even slower. And it definitely is not as fast in a straight line than your tuned 550WHP M2C.
Why not have both? GT4 as a trackcar M2C as a lunatic car Cheers Robin |
