Which exhaust system will you choose
I believe this is on everyone's to mod list. Either to enhance the sound of S55 engine or to remedy the hideous low-hanging rear box, aftermarket exhaust system is a must for the M2C.
Now with a number of big players has debuted their product, I am wondering which one of the below you would choose.
Here are some video/sound clips of the exhausts above: Remus: AFE: M-Performance: Akrapovic (EU Spec): Eisenmann Valved Exhaust System: Active Autowerke (AA Midpipe + stock exhaust) Active Autowerke Signature Full Exhaust Last edited by RIP_MKVI; 12-19-2018 at 01:09 PM.. |

I think I'm ok with the exhaust (US Spec). I think sound has gotten better over time. It's probably not awesome but not bad either. I'll however matt paint the hanging can.

I'm leaning towards Remus at this point. Seems like a decent blend between value (sort of) and sound. Who knows when the M Performance exhaust is going to come. I was pretty high on Akra until I saw the price.
Edit: Also, I believe the Remus is a axle back, not a cat back. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. |

Didn't vote in the poll intentionally because can't decide currently I was mainly debating between AA and AFE full exhausts but now also considering Eisenmann valved rear combined with AA midpipe.

My money is going on a Lightweight Performance axle back exhaust with data display system. It means I get to go on a nice road trip from the UK to Germany with the missus and enjoy a long weekend on the continent

I'm most likely going with AFE.
Potentially Dinan when/if they finally get around to releasing one, as I'm running their intake - x-pipe, and exhaust on my M3 and have been pleased. But they messaged saying they are just now starting development, and there isn't a projected date. (Losing the race there Dinan!) The factory sound isn't bad, and I'm primarily changing due to the aesthetics of the factory drop-can look at well. Thus far I haven't really heard a clip of any of those listed above that sounds bad. And I'm pretty sure that there will be several people that choose based on what's available, as most are only in pre-order status.

While I can't justify the price, I'll go with the Akrapovic. I might skip the diffuser though; to save a few dollars. I really hope the price comes in a little lower than what is being asked. We shall see very soon. I'm told that it's on its way currently.

I think you are missing an option which is AA midpipe with blacked out OEM rear muffler.

I think the stock system sounds good, but looks bad.
The MPE should be interesting - I will withhold judgment until then.

This is a good thread with combined links, videos and prices thanks for putting it together! Dinan also is in development right now although it hasn't been released and I know many people also opting for gutting the stock muffler and modifying internally to get it sounding like the M Performance. You have vids for many above which helps people when searching for options, I loaded this one yesterday to my other thread you might want to add to you first post.

Guys, for your information at this moment... There is no MPE arriving any time soon. I even have a feeling that it will never ever arrive anymore. It might just be cancelled.
That is just a feeling, because it is all so quiet about that exhaust and it is nowhere communicated, the tailpipes tucked in on the white M Performance car at the Essen Motor Show, it just feels as if it is a NO for that exhaust. Of course, I could be completely wrong, but that is what I think right now. MR |

This is exactly what I did to my 1M, which was way too quiet stock. The mid pipe really woke the exhaust up. Expecting similar results with the AA mid pipe. Also big thanks to David at Active Autowerke for being so helpful and available during the purchase process! |
