BMW, please offer OEM Tune for M2C!!

I would love for BMW to offer a tune that bumps up the stock 406hp up to at least the M2CS power level. Anyone else interested? It would be similar to the M340i mppk tune they offered. The car can definitely handle another 50hp/50tq and it's the least they could do since they locked our ECUs for 2021.

Won't happen, there's no incentive for them to do that, they could simply say buy the CS if you want more power. Plus didn't they add more cooling to deal with the added hp in the CS & not just tweak the tune ?
The aftermarket will no doubt find a solution or you can always fit a standalone ECU such as a Motec, Autronic or similar.

He said the ECU is locked.

Porsche used to (and might still) offer the x51 power kit to bring regular Carreras up to S power levels. Bet they made a lot of money on that option, mostly from secondhand buyers upgrading to S spec. It could work.

I wonder how BMW will even updated the new ECU with Bosch's encryption.

No problem - they have the key via software.

No incentive except make easy money... Once all of the CS are sold... which will be extremely soon like a few months, they can offer an OEM dealer M Performance Kit that adds another 40 HP... how many people would pay an additional 2.5K for this? Very very many to keep their warranty.

I am all for it... in addition, at this point, it wouldn't step on the M3 toes either as the motors are different and the power differences are still another 40-50 hp.

I have a 2020 HS manual and I also wanted to get a little power bump without the warranty concern so I opted for the Dinan performance flash ( approx. 60 hp and 50 + ft lb trq.) which is noticeable and you feel it across the entire rev range so closer to the m4 / m3 CS which has the extra trq over the M2 CS. i went to a Dinan certified shop who to the DME and sent to Dinan to be unlocked and loaded the software ( so 3 days in total to take out send overnight and get it back etc )..

BMW previously offered the Performance Power Kit 1 and 2 for the N54 and N55 engines. Level 1 was just a software flash, Level 2 added an upgraded fan and auxiliary radiator.

I had a PPK 2 for my N54. The gains were small, the price was high, but it afforded you a bump in power backed by your factory BMW warranty.

I assumed it was sign of things to come, but BMW must have decided otherwise. It seems like an easy money maker.

I'm not aware of a M340i mppk tune, is such a thing offered for the B58? I don't see anything after a quick googling.

There’s some sound logic and a little precedent here. I am generally content with the amount of power delivered in the competition, but would be willing to pay for a BMW provided bump with warranty. How would a group go about providing this feedback?

Sadly, the 'loophole' that existed for OE to add post delivery performance upgrades that could impact on fuel economy, noise levels and emissions, is no longer available. It is not legal in many countries for an OE to offer a post delivery upgrade without full homologation. Shame really because I would very definitely sign up to a CS like official BMW tune on my M2C.

Agree about the CS tune. BMW would make a boatload of money. I know I would sign up in a heartbeat.

But would it not have full homologation given the M2CS is in production and as far as I'm aware has the same engine, drivetrain and exhaust only difference being a CS tune?

Good point. I'm not sure exactly what goes into full homologation, as it's much tighter these days, even down to wheels. It could be that there are differences between the two cars (carbon parts, vehicle weight, etc) that would stop cross homologation on those models.

But I guess it would be difficult for BMW to make an exact CS tune for the C for fear of pissing off CS customers?

It's called a BM3 M2CS tune, $550.

No warranty which is very important to a large portion of the public.

September 2020 build, I'll happily pay you $1000 for your BM3 CS tune.

Yes, this is where the value of a factory upgrade is for me. Not being concerned about the will they/won't they cover something in the event of an engine issue is worth the price of admission.

The question is, how do you get in touch with the right people to even discuss this? The answer is always no if you don't ask.

BMW will never offer a tune for the m2. Your best bet is carbahn that will match the factory warranty or Geico car insurance and get their break down insurance that appears to cover your car even when modified.

Or live with stock.
