So when you do this does the orange stability control light on the dashboard light up?

After driving with it now for several days, I have a damn feeling BMW engineered this in.

I have seen this before with a lot of cars that have an exhaust note and burble that feels too well orchestrated not to be engineered.

You must be doing something wrong... simply press the DSC button once. The car is a bit quieter but pops and burbles when you take your foot off the gas. If it doesn't, then you are right and your car is defective

I have tried that, maybe because mine is a DCT? I have a sports exhaust on my MINI and that pops and crackles.

I've noticed you need to let the engine warm up a few minutes before it pops. You're looking for 'traction' mode on the dash (that's manual but assume the same in dct). I'm guessing it's not particularly 'good' for the engine/exhaust though? Or does make no difference whatsoever?!

This

The car pops more and is generally louder once fully warmed up.

Of course it's engineered in. If it wasn't why on earth would there be extra pops and burbles just because you turn the traction control off?

So as there seemed to be a orange ball in the sky above London this weekend I thought I'd take the car out and do some errands.

The secret exhaust mode is real. I managed to get out to the Surrey hills and no cars around set about testing all the modes. This secret one is without a doubt the best and even better is that as you're in comfort you don't have extra fake sounds through the speakers.

What a great find and through town the pops do turn heads. The fact your not revving the nuts off the car just makes it seem even more beastly.

Great find!

If anyone hasn't done this already.

Drive thru an underground or level car park in this mode....you will be giggling like a school girl

So does this also work for those with the MPE or other aftermarket exhaust?

Have you tried it on manual mode?
I have noticed that while in D mode, it barely happens, but once you start doing your own shifts it really releases all the drums!

Does it say anything in the instrument cluster when you turn this on?

It works with my FabSpeed muffler bypass. In fact, it seems like driving in Comfort mode with the DSC off (this hidden mode), gets you even more burbles than driving in Sport+

To the point where it's too much. Really. Constant pop/burbles/burps
