Skid Plate Experience?

Does anyone have experience with either skid plate From Fall line or Tuner motorsports? My friends car was just totaled with a blown engine. The culprit was debris on the highway that pierced his oil cooler. He lost a lot of oil quickly and the rest is history. If you guys don't know, the oil cooler on the Comp and CS is positioned in a really dumb place. The skid plates protect it, but the one from fall line is $700 and the Tuner Motorsport one is $400. Wanted to know about fitment. Regardless after seeing what happened to him I'm am most likely getting one.

This might be a better question for the M2 Competition forum and not the M2 CS forum. They most likely have more experience with these parts than a forum that's barely received their cars yet.

That's a recent youtube video where a person that took delivery of there m2 put it up on a life. I vaguely remember him mentioning something about protecting the oil cooler. He was counting the number of M logos under the car.

Ha, found it.

There's people here that owned a comp before their CS

Yikes . . . I'll have to check it out when I get the car.

The factory oil cooler and accessory radiator on the 1M are in similar position, but the plastic duct behind the bumper fascia ramps steeply upward to the coolers making a direct strike unlikely. I have upgraded to a larger oil cooler which sits lower and could take a direct hit. My installer made a custom aluminum shroud to direct air which includes an aluminum debris shield to protect it. It is being fabbed and installed this week . . . I'll post pics when I get the beast back.

I found the video and added it above. It was a great video for seeing the underbelly of the comp.

Thanks for the vid . . . clearly different from the e82, and not what I would have expected. That is a strange orientation for a cooler!

True, but not as much as you'll find in the actual M2C forum. And among the people who've owned a M2C in this forum, there's even less of a percentage that have actually done something about the skid plate than the actual M2C forum as well. That's why I believe you're more likely to get more responses based on experience than on the M2CS forum.

Also in general about pebbles hitting the front end: check the additional front end protection on the M2 CS Racing (source: here):

I know there is a lot of discussion about this in the M3/M4 forums because we had the same issue.

IND sells this, i'm glad someone posted this thread, i plan on getting one then. Wasn't aware of this issue coming from the N55 M2 (which i presume doesn't have the same problem?):

I kinda feel like you could just cut a cheap screen and use some 3M double sided tape. Stick it on and forget about it. The screen holes need to remain larger enough that it doesn't impede the airflow through the cooler. I'm sure there is some science that goes along with it's orientation.
