The question is.. is it not selling well because people aren't interested or everyone's going through a pandemic where car sales are down?

It's a gamble, but it could also be a sleeping giant where a # of people who want buy the car maybe aren't as financially free as they normally are and in a year or two, it's going to be a hot item.

I think what will drive the CS success/failure as well is how the g87 m2 goes.

Also when I called the dealership she noted that I was very lucky to get an allocation and be able to get one. Take it for what it's worth but these probably won't be sitting in dealerships.

I think there will be far fewer available than people like to believe. This is a car the virtually no one knew about and wasn't really advertised. Wait until it pops up in US car magazines. There are no shortage of people in the US that can afford the CS whether a good value or not. Car sales in the luxury segment have been up not down. It's also a lot less expensive to own a CS here in the states than elswhere, and you can't get a GT4 here for the same money as a CS. Have to jump to the used market to step up for same money.

This is very true in the USA. Luxury car and home sales are WAY up.

This!
The value / price comparison to most eu nations is apples to oranges (taxes compounding taxes)

Pandemic or no, the majority of these are spoken for since November '19 launch or September '20 allocations release.
Regardless of how many additional are thrown at the US, late to the queue tire kickers with the cash will catch the hype and want in.. and an additional unfortunate percentage may fall victim to the stealer ADM.

I could care less, when or how you got in, just excited to be an owner and connect with others

yea, I think people are quick to jump to say it's not selling well to justify their inaction or inability to get one. Regardless of how it immediately performs in the used market/depreciation, I got no intent to sell mine anytime soon.. and unless the g87 m2 is a complete grand slam, the car is only going to gain in popularity and mystique as time goes on.

If the g87 m2 comes in as another cow in weight and terrible looking like it's bigger brother g80 m3-people are going to want this car..

The G87 is going to to be bigger and heavier for sure. Also no longer made in Germany.

I didn’t know they are moving US production away from Germany for the G87... where to?

It's sometimes hard to know if a dealer has just listed incoming, preordered and sold cars or not, but here's the link that does currently show two MB and one HS M2 CS on their site along with seven M4 ZCP cars all in Imola Red. It appears BMW is doing the special run of M4s to close out production just like they did with the F80 where dealers just received pre-spec'd cars with no allocation choices (most were Imola red but a few other non-standard colors were sent too).

Of you decide to go to BMW of Alexandria, I would recommend asking for Nichita Gutu; great guy to deal with. I bought my M5 Comp from him.

I was told, the new 2-series would be manufactured in Mexico, all models except the rear-wheel-drive version (ie the M2) which would be manufactured in Germany

I have to check on that!

My dealer called and has one incoming shortly. I passed on it and spent a little more and got a used 991.1 GT3. At 50k, price was a big reason the 1M was such a sales success (along with it being a blast to drive).

I specifically did not want the buckets. Brutally uncomfortably unless your 100% on the track, which I am not. Most RS's have them.

July 2021:

G42 220i, 220d, 230i, M240i

Earlier in 2018
  • G42 2er Coupe will be produced from 08/21 to 03/29 and will possibly be made primarily or entirely in Mexico.

November 2018
  • G42 is confirmed to be built in Mexico.

March 2019
  • Potential models for G42 could include 220i, 220d, 220d xDrive, 230i, 230i xDrive, M240i, and M240i xDrive.
  • First news about the next (G87) M2: production 12/2022-03/2029, likely in Mexico.

February 2020
  • G42 is known to include a bunch of pedestrian 4 cylinder models but now there's a much more interesting possible (very preliminary) addition: M245i.

July 2020
  • Currently confirmed G42 models for July 2021 launch: 220d (non-US), 230i, M240i xDrive. All engines and equipment are known from existing models. No trace of the M245i name anywhere yet.

No 2014s came with buckets. They weren't available on the 991.1 GT3 until MY 2015. And no 6MT on the 991.1. The 2014s did ultimately come with fire-proof engines, though. And they are still under the 10 year warranty.
