M Drivers Package..if you call straight line performance "performance oriented".

Apart from that, to compare the F87 with the F22 is completely nonsense. Both cars have nothing in common, when speaking about performance oriented.

1M prices will probably drop now, why try to get a 1M when you can get this. Nice car too bad no CF roof.

E92 M3 still has that peaky engine that can't be had on "lesser" cars and will always be unique.

But this is newer, will probably be quicker on the street and perhaps more fun in day-to-day driving because of the power band. But then an M235i with an OEM tune (do they offer MPPK for it?) sounds attractive now.

F80 M3 is more attractive because that engine can't be had on a 340i.

Lets see what real list prices are. Around where I live, Golf R's go for no less than $45K so no way I'm ready to believe this will be available for $52K.

And I thought there's only one car to aim for - E92 M3 - So confused now
Want to be even more confused? Watch the base price end up being under $50k

My point was just about the options. And those are the same on the F87 as on the F22. I didn't make any performance comparisons.

And the M Drivers Package does only raise the limiter, so there aren't any technical differences.

Tell me about it! I hate not being able to order that color for my M3 unless you pay $5K +taxes, just ridiculous.

Base on what? A top-shelf E30 M3 costs more than either one today!

Awesome looking car. I still take my stand with missing the trademark M mirrors. But I'm sure once aftermarket companies come in this thing will be really aggressive once modded.

So no CF roof and drive shaft, that will explain the extra 116lbs over the M4.

I would bet that when thy decided they had the option of spending money on DCT vs things like an official " S" motor, bespoke " M" seats that can be changed out , a CF ROOF, and "M" Mirrors that it was a very easy decision to go with the DCT over all those other features.

The notion that a tune or a turbo upgrade will match the two cars is unfounded.

I am amazed at the laundry list of changes seen in the M2: bearings, mounts, stiffening, optimized air flow, turbo integration to exhaust manifold like in the M6, aero body optimization, drivetrain hardening, M4 suspension, subframe hard mount, proper diff, oil sump, cooling, extra cooling, DCT or optimized 6MT...

Did I miss anything?

M235i advocates are overlooking all this when pricing and power figures are the basis of the comparison suggesting the M235i is similar.

The M2 sounds to be an M formula car. By formula, I hypothesize the M division proposed a certain set of qualities and met them with this new car, in which, most parts were optimized with concerted testing and design steps.

No tuners M235i should feel close.

This IS an M car. Period.
Excellent post. As always , what is a long list of details is forgotten by the modify my lower model to beat the M model crowd

Wonder what it looks like without the front plate.
Bet it will be easier to cut a deal on an M3/M4 when this comes to market.
I'd want silver wheels and MG paint, but since M cars don't offer Active Cruise Control and it's a little too small, this vehicle doesn't work for me. Looks fun though!
