Anyone run stage 4 tune on stock turbo?

Plenty of flash tunes for cars with downpipes, but was wondering if anyone with a downpipe and the dinan box waiting for their turbo tried turning on the stage 4 tune? Theoretically it should work with just a downpipe but who knows. Flash tune is cheaper and possibly better but immediately creates warranty issues, and there is something attractive about being able to switch boost levels from a phone app on the fly.

Dinan won't activate the Stage 4 software unless the turbo is installed.

Flash tunes will introduce "ECU tampering" fault codes that wont clear. This will be noticed by the dealer and they will make notes in your file.

Just an update, the new Dinan Big Turbo are in, which means its not a rebuilt stock turbo. They're doing up the 435i to Stage 4 right now at the BMW dealer.

What's the cost at the dealer from 0 to Stage 4 with labor?

Cost depends on your dealer hourly fees and which system you have (X drive, which front bumper config, etc). Note the car i'm talking about is a 2014 435i rwd M-optioned. Considering i got Stage 2 'free' during trade-in deal, the additional cost was not too bad. Of course if you have skills or a good Dinan/indie guy they can install it too. Dinan's site gives you their hour breakdown per item. Here was my personal calculations per Dinan's time allotment:

Cost Of Item --- Time To Install --- Item
$229 ---------- 2.6 ---------- Fuel Kit
$500 ---------- 0.5 ---------- Stage 2 to Stage 4
$1000 ---------- 3.0 ---------- Intercooler (2 to 4.5 hours)
$1500 ---------- 5.0 ---------- Big Turbo
----------------------------------------------
$3229 parts ---- 11.1 hours labor

Note: Stage 4 is $2824, yet was upgrading from 2 to 4 so only the difference in cost applies.
