Yep, this is a respectable move by Toyota considering the transitory state we are in with the automotive industry.

My M2C (coming soon ) is going to be DCT. It will be somewhat of a daily driver, and I want my wife to enjoy it as well (once in a blue moon ). So I went with that decision.

However, this is the first non-manual car I have personally bought. I learned driving on a stick and have had a manual since then. I will always respect a company for taking the risk and releasing a manual gearbox in their sports car.

What? I can afford a piece of A5 wagyu steak for lunch but I actually prefer the simpler fish and chips or spaghetti boscaiola...ok?

I can afford a 911 CS but I don't want it. It is bland. The M2C is much more flavourful. It is not always about how much one can afford.

I do think everyone here has good intentions. I don't think anybody is trying to upset anyone else. I think it's really hard to discern tone and demeanor from the written word. Especially when we're all often jotting off something quickly from our mobile devices while waiting in line at Costco or whatever.

You get it Its no different from having a disputed with my dumb friends.. All love, no malice.

I never said anyone who purchases an M2 can't afford a higher-tier vehicle, that's obviously an asinine assumption since I don't have everyone's net worth.

It's simply the demographic that this vehicle caters to are folks mostly willing to spend within a specific budget, as oppose to customers who have more or willing to spend more on a performance vehicle.

Even BMW said they released the M2 as an experiment and didn't expect it to attract a more mature crowd but based on the steady sales of the 135i and 235i, they rolled the dice at this model.

You guys take that as I am bashing on the M2 and saying it's not worthy or something. Not true, as I appreciate it for what you get for the price, the same way I love to have a Subaru STI RA and the new Supra, as they are great value.

Maybe my point is getting lost in translation as Cptobvious suggested, so let's just kill the subject for sake of continuity and move on.

I literally turned down an M3 an M4 and an M4 vert. All of which would cost less on the sticker than my M2C.

It looks better than all but maybe the M4 but they are common as muck now anyway. It's more unique it's rarer. It drives better as a daily. It handles better. It's more fun. It reviews better and the residuals are higher.

I wouldn't buy or consider owning an M5 because:

I'm not 50+
Its a boat
Nightmare to park anywhere in UK
Costs a fortune to do real mileage in. (my m2c will have 85k on it in 4 years.
Lacks handling fun and engagement

As to compare to a supra. Toyota will need many paid reviews to sell that car because nobody in Europe will be seen dead in one. Its not a premium brand here and only a hard core fan would own it. Its not practical nor is it better than a porsche and despite what reviews say nobody will think any different.

The M2C's trap speed shows the difference in power as speed builds. The Supra's 8 Speed helps it pull a nice 1/4 mile time, but you can see in this article from Car and Driver, that the M2C hits 150 mph 3.2 seconds before the Supra, which is a huge difference. Supra looks like a cool little platform though!
