A little help?

Trying to get Waze to work. CarPlay (which I think is my problem?) enabled in a 2020 M2C.

Whenever I launch the app on my phone and tell it to go somewhere, it defaults to an arrow by arrow screen-- NOT the map. I can get to the map on the half-screen Apple CarPlay display on the car, but I want to keep the map on the phone while I'm driving.

Any ideas? I've looked through the entire app, and I can't see anything.

If I put in a destination on Waze on my phone, the map works fine-- as soon as I turn on the car, I get the arrow by arrow screen.

There's got to be a way to keep the map on the phone with CarPlay? Yes, No?

TIA-- I'm Road Tripping Denver to San Jose to Portland to Seattle to Denver on Tuesday, and this is my "poor man's radar detector".

I too, haven’t figured out a way to display the map portion on the phone.
All map displays are directed to the idrive screen.

I'm pretty sure that CarPlay is driving the bus here-- both my buddy (who's pretty smart on Waze) and I played around on it. No joy, so I'll just run the map display on the center screen. Non-optimal, but it'll do I suppose.

Just curious, why are you wanting to display the map on the phone instead of the idrive screen?
I personally hook up the phone to a charger as soon as I get in the car and rely solely on carplay to use waze and music albums.

XM on left side of screen, nav data on right. Waze on phone was the plan.

I keep forgetting the steering wheel buttons, so that was an easy setup for me, but I'll modify as required.

Ah I see.
I only listen to musics from my phone or flac in a USB, so Waze on the idrive display is not an issue.
