2018 M2 daily driver

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Gals and Gents, i'm thinking of a adding a 18' M2 to the fleet as a daily driver. I've owned one before and found the ride to be a little rough during colder days in Michigan. I've heard (maybe i'm wrong) that the M-performance coil over suspension improves the ride quality a little bit. Is that true?

What would be the ideal setup for a daily with occasional hooligan-ness? I've had a M240i with LSD but it just wasnt close enough to a M-car. I was thinking M-performance coil over and 18's.

Thank you in advance.

I can't speak for the stock suspension on the m2, never tried it. I do have the coilovers and they're definitely a sporty ride, but don't break my back. If I remember correctly the Dinan suspension is said to a better ride than stock.

Dinan kit has stiffer spring rates, but unlike the stock ones which are progressive the Dinan's are linear.

Linear vs. progressive - which one will result in the best ride quality?

Matt Farah on YouTube claims the dinan feels better. If that's true I can't attest to myself.

Progressive will be less stiff at low speeds compared to linear. I think switching from 19s to 18s with higher profile tires will get you what you're looking for in terms of ride quality and hoon balance. I rode through last winter here in MI with 19s and it didn't feel like a burden. Then again, I'd only drive it if the roads were dry

FWIW, the m-performance suspension is either installed at the port or dealer, not at the factory. Also, TC Kline has a great reputation for good track and street compromise in their Koni-based kits.

I have heard good things about the Dinan suspension but in checking their website I don't see it being sold any longer as a stand alone product. It was up there a few months ago when I toyed with the idea of doing it but its gone now.

Oops, it is still there but you have to look specifically under suspension, it doesn't show up on the regular list of products for the M2

I would be very surprised if coilovers rode "better" than the stock suspension - even MP coils.... better of course being subjective to what we're asking about.

Higher performance and more able? Yes

Adjust-ability? Yes

More comfortable? Not so sure

Just ordered an M2 on Monday, should get it in March. The misses was complaining that the M2 would need a roof rack for the bikes. This should prove her wrong
