I had the door cards off on my M235i, numerous times, and I never found anything inside the door that might rattle. It's super simple under there.

One of the main reasons I sold mine. SO MANY RATTLES. EVERYTHING RATTLED!

Seriously, even getting into the car shit would rattle. So damn annoying. Over a bump? RATTLE. Move in the seat? RATTLE. Change AC? RATTLE.

Dont miss it at all.

My rattle has been resolved. I bought the car used. It had a broken sunroof replaced, large piece of glass was left in the roof liner.

I have the same problem . Sorry for my very bad English but I have not understood what you mean by headliner. You could better explain your remedy.
Thank you

I have the mirror rattle described in post 81. The dealer "fixed it" but it has come back (not as loud, however). I really don't want to take it back to the dealer, but I can't figure out how to separate the mirror housing without forcing it. The member who posted #81, Alby_416, does not appear to be active and his picture links are broken.

Has any one figured out how to separate the rear mirror (with Homelink)?

Thanks in advance.

Never mind, I figured it out.. Alby_416 was not referring to the mirror housing itself, but the cover over the rain-sensing monitor. I opened it up using gentle pressure, put some foam between the metal part hitting the windshield and the noise is gone. Honestly, I can't see this NOT causing a rattle on any M2 except on very smooth roads...

Cover removed:

No sound, but this is what causes the noise...

Foam put in to prevent the noise...success!

Kevin, did the cover come off by hand or did you need a trim tool? I want to have a go at this myself as mine has been back to the dealers several times and still have rattles.

No tool needed. Use your thumb and put gentle pressure at the the middle seam of the cover. Then separate one half and rotate it away. Finally rotate the other half off. Don't force - it is held together by plastic clips.

Where did you put the foam exactly? Hard to see on the last picture

In the video I'm tapping a u-shaped piece of metal. Once you take off the cover its pretty easy to see where you need to put the foam on each side to prevent the metal piece from contacting with the glass.

Just a heads up the video doesn't load, at least for me.

Thanks. Weird, it seems to run on Safari but not on Firefox. It's similar to the video in post 81 if your are interested.

In all honesty.....as much as many of us might not like to hear this considering we paid a fair amount for these vehicles....

....just try and track down the rattle and apply some felt-tape in the area.

....its all the dealership does. I would know, I've spent some time in the service bays

I have an annoying rattle that is difficult to detect. Sometimes it seems to come from the center light console sometimes from the A-pillar . I unnecessarily disassembled the A-pillar, center light console, center mirror cover, sun visor and sun visor latch but the rattles remains. It's a dry noise (like a "tack") it feels sometimes but really annoying.
He started doing it after 7,000 km in early autumn (this summer no rattles). I read that there is a PUMA case for A-pillar . I have read what this surgery consists of and I am afraid that other damage can be done. It is necessary to disassemble the windscreen and the entire dashboard in order to separate with a chisel the contact area of two plates of the car chassis at the base of the A-pillar.
To whom has already had this intervention the rattles have been heard immediately or has it appeared after traveling several miles with a car? Is the rattle a dry "tack" ?

This. They also don't take much care in taking apart your car, putting it back together, etc.

Agreed, I had my local BMW techs put my door cars back on and not only scratch the steering wheel but leaving a wire hanging outside the door card.

I had 2 rear deck rattles. One from the plastic covers and really difficult to find from this plastic wire harness attached to the body on the right side of the car behind this vertical side part of the backseat close to the c pillar.

Unfortunately with the condition of the roads we have here, rattles are unavoidable

No you're not... this is why I try to do everything I can on my car myself. I might break a clip, but I'll know about it and can replace it when the tech might just say f**k it.

I had my iDrive screen replaced under warranty, and the dealership fitted it crooked. I was annoyed, but once I got home I took it all apart and put it back together again and it's now fitted correctly.

I think I am paranoid by not wanting my car worked on by anyone but myself unless I'm there, unless it's something as little as an oil change, but having the whole dash removed... I'd say your concerns are valid.

I solved a hard to locate long time rattle yesterday. Inside the headline/ceiling lights unit (or whatever it's called) the circuit board could move in the plastic housing just slightly. I put some small pieces of rubber foam in there so the circuit board couldn't move.

I had a horrible rattle (only 14k on car - stock exhaust and suspension) towards the rear. I narrowed it down to the child seat covers. I just put some mechanics paper in there and the rattle now ceases to exist
