An e36 was pulling some asshat maneuvers trying to get me to punch it on the 5 freeway pretty early the other morning...
So I dropped a gear and disappeared down the empty highway, absolutely dusting the man of course. This thing does 165 happily! |

I’ve had a few people catch up to see the car. Honestly, I’ve never seen another M2C on the road so I would do the same love the look of this car and would actually like to see it in action. I’ve only seen 4-5 OG M2s.

I have not had others want to race me in the M2C but then again it only has 1600 miles most accumulated at off times. I have in other cars such as an E36 M3, E39 M5 (very funny experience with a late 90's Honda Civic driven by two late teenagers with a coffee can exhaust), dangerous episode with a pick up while driving a Lexus IS-F and lastly while driving a 911 C4S. In the M2C, most just want to chat at a stop light or gas fill-up.
Driving with my wife in her W213 E63s wagon during her first drive with our daughter in the back seat on a Saturday stroll, two guys in a SRT 392 Challenger are cutting and weaving through traffic as they come up from behind traveling 20 mph above our 70 mph cruise in the right lane. They immediately hit the brakes when they pass us. I thought "here we go, they are going to try to goat her into a race." However they slowed down and then slightly sped up to get a look at the rear, side and front of the wagon. Both of us then came to a stop light and I mentioned to my wife that the two guys are checking out her car. We half expected an engine rev, peal out, something. But no, they drove as calm as can be for another mile until we turned off and both gave a thumbs up with big smiles. Made my wife's day. |

The E39 M5 experience - apologize for the length in advance
I was driving home after working an overnight shift in the hospital just trying to get home safely and stay awake during the hour drive, 2 lanes each direction on a well paved but not busy road about 6:45-7a. Notice a black Honda Civic with a very loud, coffee can exhaust and oversized wheels with two late teenagers drive up past me on the left. We both pull up to a red light. Light turns green and the Civic driver dumps the clutch, chirps the tires and squirts ahead. I'm drinking my coffee and drive as I normally do when mellow. Another red light and the driver and front seat passenger are nodding, smiling, roll down their windows and head bobbing to the beat of their subwoofer which is shaking the crap out of their Civic. Light turns green and repeat until the next red light. Now I'm awake and decide enough is enough. I switch to sport mode, rev the E39 and point to the light. The Civic driver turns off the stereo, re-adjusts his grip on the steering wheels and focuses intently on the light realizing that this time it is for real. The front seat passenger is trash talking through the open window. I'm just shaking my head waiting for the light to turn green thinking rear wheel drive, 5.0 liter V8, traction control, limited slip diff and 275 cross section 18's versus a small 4 cylinder, oversized wheels, no pop off valve (so no aftermarket turbo) and front wheel drive. It will be humiliating... Light turns green and I shoot off down the street. The Civic briefly chirps it's front wheels and then bogs down as it starts to accelerate. I get up to 65 (55 speed limit road) and stop accelerating and then coast to next red light (every 1/2 mile to mile between lights) and wait … but no Civic? The Civic is sitting off my left rear corner and will not pull alongside me. In my side mirror I can see that the driver is no longer smiling and is staring straight ahead. The passenger is not even looking up from his lap. It did put a smile on my face and made my drive home a little more interesting. |

It is definitely annoying. Interestingly, though, the 2017 Audi S3 that was my former daily driver attracted more racy idiots than the M2 does. It was typically dudes in Nissan Altimas/Maximas, Honda Accord Sports, BMW 335s, and Dodge Ram 1500 pickups. Yes, Dodge pickups.
It’s the reckless, high-speed weaving in and out of traffic that makes me cringe. Coming mere feet from someone’s bumper at 80mph. Engaging them is pointless, a lose-lose proposition.

Yesterday a guy in a modded Mini Cooper S followed me to my house and was all giddy about seeing a M2C. Said it was the only one he had ever seen in the area and it was his dream car. He said he loved the the color, the aggressive front end and how it sounded going down the road.
Nice to talk to a fellow car enthusiast.

Not long after getting the car, one of our local cops did that to me. Freaked me out a bit but he was just really excited to see the car. I see him off and on around town and he always asks how the car is. Nice guy.

That’s nice. 25-30 years ago I use to get other car guys talk like that in the parking lots and gas station with my 911’s. As of maybe 10 years ago the 911 is treated like a leper out in public. I believe it was because of the newer non-car-enthusiast demographic leasing the cars and generally being a snobby douchebag. My M2C is a rockstar and it seems the younger gamer kids In VW GTI’s know all about it and have to come up every chance to check it out. The approachability between the two cars was instant and dramatic when I purchased my M2C. I am not that old but I believe the pre social media days had a much stronger car culture and people went out of there way to attend car shows and hang out just to talk. It’s too easy now to post pics of the car you maybe or maybe not own on Facebook and be a car connoisseur guru of printed specs. Last edited by MystroX5; 05-22-2020 at 08:23 AM.. |

Cars like ours and 911s etc, no longer attract attention from anyone, except those who know the cars well, or are into cars. And this will all depend on where you live. Around these parts, you'll only get someone to talk to you if you pull up in a Lambo, Mclaren, or Ferrari, etc., otherwise you are background noise

I agree with that. Around me the most exotic thing around here I have seen is a Porsche 996 turbo. Other than that it is all Chargers, Challengers, Mustangs, Cameros and the occasional WRX / STI. Oh, there is one Maserati, I think it is a Ghibli?

The only exception to this rule came when he wasn't driving it. We'd just picked his car up from the shop, so I was driving the GTO and he was in his crappy 4runner (if i'm going to take an hour out of my day to help you pick up your rad car, i'm going to at least drive that car.) I was cruising on the freeway when like 5 dudes in a lowered WRX started pacing me. I could see them checking out the car, so I clutched in, dropped it to third and did a quick 60-75 mph pull, just so they could hear that 6.0L V8. I then backed down to 60 again. The WRX caught back up and slowly crept by me. When I looked over, I could see literally every person in the crowded WRX giving me a thumbs up, half of the dudes were crowded to the side of the vehicle just so they could reach the window. When we got back to his house, i told my friend the story and he was equal parts excited and sad that he wasn't there. He sold the car a few years later and literally nobody that came and looked at it cared one way or another about the front end swap he'd spent so much time on. BUT THAT ONE TIME!!! that one time, people got it and respected...Just too bad he wasn't there that time. |

I had high hopes for that car and even test drove a newer lightly used silver Pontiac GTO 6 speed. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Every time I speed shifted it sounded like the tranny was going to drop out of it?!?! Plus getting into the rear seats was a joke. Maybe I was missing something, but it appeared to only have ridiculously slow electric forward and back movement on the seat. You could probably walk to where you were going faster than waiting for the seat to move forward and back just to get into the rear seat. My daughter was still in a car seat, so that was a no-go for me!
I really liked the concept, but the execution was poor, probably why they didn't sell well.

It was definitely a muscle car though, in addition to the transmission not being fantastic it felt pretty nose heavy. I vividly recall it spinning its rear tires while still understeering a couple of times when donuts were attempted (not that it wouldn't do nice donuts, but you had to fight some understeer.) Still, it was reasonably fast, not too ugly, rare and it sounded great. There are worse things out there. |

"DON'T YOU FUCKING YAK IN MY CAR MOTHERFUCKER!! YOU CAN DO THIS TY!! DIG DEEP!!!!" "uuuiihhhiiuuu...I dunno nick...I uh...I dunno" Ty responded. The rest of us were caught between abject terror at being puked on and enjoying what was a pretty fun high speed ride in the back of a Ford Escort. I was sitting next to Ty, so while I was in the line of fire, I also had a better idea of when that levee was gonna break. We couldn't have been more than 30 seconds from the house when Ty finally couldn't take it any longer. It was one of those moments that seemed to stretch out into infinity. I looked around in panic, trying to find somewhere, anywhere that wasn't about to be covered in puke. And then I made my move. I jumped up and put my feet onto the seat cushion where i'd been sitting, stood up, leaned forward and spread my arms and torso out across the ceiling of the car. Chaos reigned below me. "OHhhgoo...BLEAAAAAhh..I'msorry niiiBLLEAUGHH!!" I could hardly hear Ty through the sounds of my fellow back seat occupants "OHH GOD FUCK YOU TY!!!!" and "Goddamnit dude!!!" At the end of the night we all survived though, I even made it out without getting any puke on me. Nick ultimately cleaned out the Escort and sold it for the same 300 dollars he'd bought it for at the beginning of the year. Ty never quite lived that one down, but as an upshot, he did get to sit shotgun way more often than the rest of us after that. Also quick disclaimer: Nick didn't drink, irresponsible as we were, there was a genuine minimum of drunk driving among my friends and I. Edit: sorry for turning this thread into story time. |

Today was a good car spotting day, and I saw a GT3, GT2RS (my personal dream car..I'm pretty sure it was a GT2RS), Aston Martin DBS Superleggra(?), and a McLaren 570. It could be the color of mine? I have gotten a lot of positive comments on Sunset Orange and believe it is one of the main reasons my car attracts the attention. Or very possible that there are a lot of automotive enthusiasts out here... I have noticed that. Vegas loves its cars and trucks. Last edited by csbear; 05-22-2020 at 10:24 PM.. |
